Not trying to hijack this thread, but how well does that antenna location work? I just bought a Wilson 5' fiberglass antenna and put it there. After a few hours messing with the location of it, I still can't get the SWR's down and the radio has a "hiss" at all volume. It does not get louder with the engine RPM's; it's just always there at a constant volume. I think it may have something to do with the amps mounted on my back wall.

I had the Wilson super trucker on my 02 in the same position and it worked great. That is an old pic. I have since moved the coil up, were it sticks above the cab. I had an issue with reception with it being so low.I couldn't hear/talk to anybody unless I was right on them.

How do you have the radio powered/grounded?

Well I have the radio powered/grounded straight to the battery. I've had it like this since the beginning though. I had a 102" whip on my toolbox, but took it off because I am about to lower the truck back down; I thought the smaller fiberglass antenna would fit in with the truck more then. So I changed the mounting position and the antenna and now I have this hissing and high SWR's. I'm stumped. I may just revert back to the whip; it worked awesome.

Check your stud mount. Do you have that plastic warsher installed? Do you have a solid cable from the antenna to the radio or do you have an adapter inline to make it longer?

See that's one thing I changed and I don't know if that is my problem. I changed the stud out to an all stainless one and I'm wondering if it is a bad one. I didn't have time to put my old stud on to see if that helped so that'll be the first thing I change when I find the time. My coax is a single 18' piece from the radio to the antenna. No adapters or added pieces.

Do you have that plastic warsher installed? If not your grounding out the antenna and radio.

Yes I do have the plastic insulator installed. It's on the topside of the mount, just like it's supposed to. Everything pointes to the stud mount as the problem. Afteral, it is the only thing new besides the antenna. I did put the old whip on the new stud mount and still had the same problems. I'm guessing that it is the problem. Thanks for all your help man. I appreciate it.....

so can a general lee or other 10m radios but tuned to get the weather channels or will i just have to get a CB that is already made for that feature?

also what is the advantage of the cobra 29 over the 25?

buckshotmckee, is your 25 "stock" or have you had it tuned or whatever? just wondering what kinda watts it puts out and how easy they are to modify.

Right now im kinda thinking about either the General lee or a Cobra 29WXNW. I like the idea of having the weather bands, but i like the idea of the general lee and big power. If the general lee had the weather bands it would make things even more difficult. How often does anyone ever really use the weather bands?

All I've done is just dial in the SWRs on it. I have not had it tuned. There are no CB shops in my area. As soon as I find one for the next time I'm out of town, I will have it tuned and some extra power added to it. I figure I'll add only 100 watts. It should be more then sufficent.

I forgot to add, I liked the Cobra 25, cause it was smaller and more compact then the 29 and it gave me all I needed.

i see one of the things listed for the 29 is "swr calibration". Does the 25 not have that dial on it? it also said it had instant ch 9 and 19 but not sure if the 25 has that or not as its not listed as a feature on sparky's page

I put a Cobra WXSTII 18 (or something like that) in my jeep due to the front facing speaker it has. It makes it easier to hear it w/ the top off. It's got something like 8 weather bands etc... It's not the best but I get pretty good distance w/ just a 4' firestick. I plan to put the same one in my truck. I don't need the best, just good. lol
