Well boys and girls, our Great State of California has left the door open to now smog check vehicles up to 14,000 lbs GVWR.

As I read it, there are two issues that might make this a non issue..It applies to GVWR below 8051lbs, and the clause about "if the testing equipment necessary to implement is more than $10k they will mitigate"
As I understand it, the particulate tests are easy to implement, but actual testing of complete emissions require machines in excess of $100k.
All 3rd gens have a GVWR at 9000lbs. Not so say I am not nervous, but we look OK at the moment.

"At first, 3/4 and 1-ton trucks will still be exempt from the smog check program, but it looks like the diesel free-pass for these trucks may not last. The section of the bill that exempts them will now read:
"All diesel-powered vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 8,501 to 10,000 pounds, inclusive, until the department, in consultation with the state board, pursuant to Section 44012, implements test procedures applicable to these vehicles." --California AB 1488
