Buying a Torque Converter

Is it a bad idea to buy just a Torque Converter??? I think I want to go with a single disk from DTT any suggestions??? If I use TowHaul on the 06 doesnt this increase line pressure??? So could I do just a TC and no Valvebody by the way the most power my truck will ever have is a programmer Smarty or BullyDog.... Im new to the transmission business so any help is appreciated.....

wouldn't be good money spent unless you buy atleast both converter and valve body...why DTT anyway?

I believe, and can be wrong, that HTS sources their TC's from Suncoast.

I think you are right, HTS does transmissions and valve bodies but uses suncoast converters.

I got a quote on a triple disc and a valve body and the price was reasonable. Cheaper for me than buying from the local Canadian guys.

There's a guy on here that has only a triple or single disc TC in his trans and he was running a quad on the 100 hp setting and is now running a smarty jr., I assume on the 100 hp setting too. If I remember correctly he also had 35's on it too. I believe his truck was an 05 and he talked to Dave at Goerend about getting a TC and VB. But, I think due to the change over from a cable driven throttle to a electronic throttle and the trans unable to determine the proper pressures for shifting in the trans with a built trans starting in the 05 and up year's, that Dave just recommended he get a TC. Now there is shift enhancer's you can get so the trans knows when to shift with an aftermarket VB but I have heard even those aren't helping for some people. It all depends on what you plan to do though, I only plan to run a smarty jr., with the usual exhaust/air mods. I'd give Dave at Goerends, or Dusty at HTS a call. From what I hear they both know there stuff very well.

Dang 1stGen, you have a good memory ! I beleive I'm that guy.
I've been running Dave's single disc for 3yrs and 50k miles on quad 100hp and now Smarty jr on 100hp.
At the begining all I wanted was to get rid of the stock TC and get something tighter. I didn't plan on adding hp. A few weeks on this site changed that :-)
When I decided to add power I contacted Dave regarding adding a VB (the TC was already in). At the time, he wasn't too familar with how the computer controlled the line pressure thru the servo on the trans, so he suggested I ran the truck as is. No sign of slippage or anything in 3 years with no towing to speak of however (2000lb trailer+bike)
Under hard acceleration from a stop, the tires will spin before any clutch in the trans will. Going up steep passes in CO and flooring it from 60mph produces no slippage either :-) If I was towing, I'd buy the 'enhancer'

Give Dave a call, tell him what you want to do and I'll set you up with just the right stuff.

Yeah that would be you, I remembered your mods and your talk with Dave, but couldn't remember your name. Recently I've been looking through the Goerend posts on the websites, trying to decided on just a TC or a TC & a VB. My mod's are going to be pretty close to what your's are, probably just a smarty Jr.
