Building boost the cheap way??

Today i was talking to my buddy who has a 04 with bully dog. I was kind and asked him how much psi he is running. he tells me 32 max, he says that what it will stay at (auto) I told him to run a boost elbow to allow more boost.
He goes ha do it the old fashion way! Put a hoseclamp on the wastegate line for a restriction

Would it even work at all??

I would like to know, I never heard such a thing

Yes it will, and a few members will attest to that. Also, 35psi is about the limit on the turbo for an 03-04, he's at a safe range.

I have an 06 and was wondering the same thing. I have Smarty on the truck also. What is the boost fouling on the Smarty? and what kind of benefit would I get from an elbow?

03-04s are mechanically controlled.

04.5 and up are electronically controlled, so a boost-fooler will be the key to getting more boost.

On my buddys first truck we got to playing around and used a small crescent wrench to clamp off the wastegate line. Worked just fine on his 2nd gen. He got about 5 more lbs boost on his HX35.

how much would you have to clamp the line off to gain any psi? and if the truck was stock how would you find out if your over boosting with out gauges?

If your over boosting on a stock truck, you will get an over boost code.

i used a pair of vice grips to clamp it all the was off and got about 42 psi. dont really want to go over 35 psi with a stock turbo.

Your running 60psi and water/meth with the stock '03 turbo and no head studs? I can't imagine what the drive pressures would be.

You have an 06 and a stock turbo....until you get an aftermarket turbo / studs / .... you don't need any mechanical changes....

Download any version of the smarty "aftermarket turbo" software and you will then have boost fooling enabled.....on my 06 / stock turbo i can hit 40psi regularly

lol.. yha, kinda what ive been thinking... i only saw that much once... normaly i back off around 40.

what is interesting is how low of a presure the stock wastegate creeps at.
with my current setup i can hit 20psi@1200rpm with the wastgate hooked up it barely makes 10psi@1300rpm it seems like soon as it builds ANY boost it cracks open. i didnt ever try a boost elbow, i just went stait to the cheep ez fix
