Boost gauge installed, now ???

Got my boost gauge installed, works great but got a question. I have a stock truck (I know) when my boost gets to 30psi it drops back to about 26-27 then back to 30 and so forth till I let up off the throttle. Is that the wastegate opening or do I have a leak in the line somewhere? It only does this at 30psi, works fine the rest of the time. Thanks in advance.

Lance.

Sounds like the wastegate doing its job. I wouldn't worry one bit...

Thanks but no thanks,
I use my truck as a daily commuter and tow my toyhauler (25K/yr)so I want the reliability, not saying any your trucks with boxes aren't reliable it's just that most of the time I read a thread on here about something wrong with their truck there is almost always a box of some sort in their sig.

Not with SmartyJr !!!! I do the same thing as you, daily commute, pulling, playing, etc, my truck hasn't lost anything.

Ok so what is the difference between smarty's and everything else ie bully, superchip, edge etc. Programmers have never been on my list of things for my truck, so I haven't researched them enough to know the diff.

OOhh the smarty is a monster of a programmer that can support huge increases in horsepower. The smarty jr. is a more budget conscience programmer that makes a nice bump in power but so long as you are smart with it should not put anything in danger. The Edge Juice, like what I have, is a plug in module that has the same basic idea. Give a nice bump in horsepower but comes with a ton of added safety features, like defueling for a stock drivetrain...and man oh man has that saved my butt! There is nothing wrong with keeping a truck stock but a wisely used power adder should do no damage to the truck.

^^^exactly. Smarty also has top notch customer support, and they listen to what we say. Since you weren't originally planning on a programmer, you should be well suited with a SmartyJr. It will help with towing, and give you lower egts. Anything in the range of 60hp should suit you fine for your needs and still be relatively safe on an otherwise stock truck. If you're looking for adjustability, Edge or Quad will also be a good addition.

If you do that much towing you want a Smarty Jr... In stock form your EGT's are stupid hot, and really towing in cruise control isn't an option because 1400* happens now... with the Jr that wont happen... Better mileage, better EGT's.... and its not a box, it is simply the best programmer for the normal guy.

My 25k/year is 75% commute 25% towing. Yes I do see stupid high egt's 1400-1500* climbing some of the big hills here in AZ pulling 11k, but I only let it see that for 1-2 minutes at a time. Going to the dunes (all flat) I set the cruise at 70 and only see 900-1000*. How is the smarty jr on your trans. That's my only concern when comes to adding a box. I want the trans to last as long as possible before I dump the money in a new TC VB. I dont need a fully built trans. BTW I love the way it pulls now in stock form, I can only imagine what it's like on the other side.

I shied away from programmers for a long time, then I tried the Triple Dog and had a scare with it when trying to remove it from the truck. Swore off programmers for good after that! But in a moment of weakness I snatched up a Smarty Jr. This should be an option in every truck. If I were a dealer I'd make it a dealer installed option! Especially if you tow! This thing lowered EGTs on my truck by a ton. Since installing mine my truck has never run better.

IMHO 1400 for more than a few seconds is way too hot... even thou you dont really hear of stock motors melting down..

As far as the Jr goes, put it on 40hp and your tranny wont know the difference, but your engine will.

SmartyJr on tow setting (level2) will help your truck and will be safe on a healthy tranny. You will see lower egts, much better power delivery, and its not traceable so when you go to the dealership you won't be getting the shaft. This programmer makes the truck what Dodge shouldve done long ago.
