Are bilsteins REALLY that good?????

Well I finally got it done, I lifted it another 2 inches, so thats 4 in front and 2 in back. I had to take my KYB mono max shocks off, I've had them on two CTD and really liked them, my local shop suggested Tuff Country shocks to try, cause thats what they sell. I dont like them, Its very choppy on the hiway. The only change from before is the coil spacers and shocks in the front end. (control arms as well) I am leaning towards bilsteins after using the search function on here. Does anyone out there have the Lorenz coils and bilsteins??? If so which ones 5100??? or is there another????? Thanks

5100 series is what you want, they are the silver and black ones. and yes they are very good. It smoothed out the ride alot. The way I describe it is when im driving down the road and hit a bump, with the old shocks it felt like the whole truck would shake. With the bilstiens it took that shutter feeling away and smoothed it out.

I have the Lorenz leveling kit (5100 system). I can't say for sure the new 5100 shocks are any better. I guess it depends on the person, as to what their comfort tolerance is. They aren't bad.

I know my truck is alot stiffer in ride quality with the Lorenz Kit on it.
I haven't had my trailer hooked up yet, so maybe it will make a difference then. A couple more months to test that out.

Later,

Bob

I've read that the body of the Bilsteins rust pretty quickly so based on your location, that might be a factor. Down here in socal I don't think I'd have much of an issue.

5100's will NEVER rust!

A bad batch of 7100's a few years ago had that problem.

5100's are the best non race shock out there period! Huge improvement!

Where I am at there is some rust issues with salt and sand on the roads this time of year................

I really liked the ride of the Lorenz coils and the KYB's, if I could get that ride again I would be very happy.............

I've had the BDS shocks and the 5100's in nickle plateing by billstin. The BDS's rode like I had the suspension of a brick. The 5100's ride smoother then both trucks did when they were new from the factory. 5100's also come in that ugly yellow/blue. I think they have a life time warrinty too. My only complaint is the nickle plateing isnt clear coated so it almost imeaditly tarnished/pitted but its still better looking then the yellow. Also I think one of the shocks is leaking. 1 out of 8 between the 2 trucks.

I have the KORE leveling kit and the Bilstien 5100's and they ride very smoothly and take the bumps and shocks very well. I'm very pleased with mine

Hmmm. I think I need some of those. My truck bounces all over when I hit a bump.. I had Bilsteins on my 03 but did not feel any difference over stock. I got them used and maybe they were just wore out even though they looked like new...

All I know is that if kyb made a longer shock I'd be all over that in a heartbeat, I'm not against getting some 5100 cause I HATE the ride now, need an improvment of some sort and i KNOW the coils are awesome, so that leaves the shocks, and I'm tapped into one of the best set of sales people around....................

Had 5100's on since the begining, never had a problem with rust, and I am in the king of salt cities. I have had every brand known to man and they all seem to rust within the first winter season, but not the trusty 5100's. Oh yeah, the ride improved quite a bit too...Good luck with your decision.
