Big truck sound??

I've got an 04 ho that I want to sound like the big rigs. I've heard a couple 2nd gen trucks that I had to do a double take to make sure they weren't dump trucks driving by.
Which exhaust should I be looking at to get the best big truck sound?
Thanks

Re:Big truck sound??

Take the muffler off.

Most (IMO) people have found they don't like the sound in the 3Gs and have decided on a muffler setup of some sorts. Walker, Dynomax, Flowmaster to name a few.

Wait for some folks who've done it or do a search for it and you'll get some interesting posts.

Re:Big truck sound??

making the 3g's sound like a big rig is a challenge. i have a banks monster exhaust and my 03, exhaust sounds "raspy" - i can NOT hear turbo whistle out of my exhaust. my ford X psd (7.3L) with banks exhaust sounds awesome! 8)
i do not think ANY exhaust is going to cure the sick sound of the 3g's. i think the "sound" culprit lies in the turbo -- but that would quite an expensive swap out purely in the search of sound.

STACKS!!!!

I haven't heard a 3rd gen with them but the 2nd gens sound Cooooooool!!

Try working your muffler off of the truck without cutting it off and start it and drive around. If you like it, put a piece of straight pipe in it's place. genosgarage.com sells a muffler elimination kit which replaces the muffler perfectly. Your's being an 04, you might get the muffler off pretty easily...

Re:Big truck sound??

if you want the big truck sound get a second gen 24V with 4 inch straight pipe exhaust (or stacks) and an exhaust brake....

Re:Big truck sound??

STACKS, a customer of mine has dual 6" turnouts on his, the angle cut at the turnout leaves a hole a foot across. They are huge. It does sound a lot better than any of the other 3rd gens, but the look is not for me. I will post a pic as soon as possible. If you want the sound then stacks will do it.

Re:Big truck sound??

It's clamped on. I pulled mine off at about 12000 miles and had a hard time with the front side of the muffler sticking to the exhaust pipe. I ended up cutting it off.

Nobody makes a direct replacement HP muffler for these trucks. You will probably have to get a 4" aftermarket one and piece it on....

Re:Big truck sound??

Twister manufacturer: http://www.flopro.com/homepage.htm Personally I have never heard of them. According to their site, they do offer a 4" inlet and outlet muffler for those interested. They also offer a complete diesel replacement system....looks like 4" turbo back aluminized, no hangars or clamps...must be welded. Not much info on their site. I sent them an e-mail with a few questions. I'll let you know what they say.

I have been looking hard for an exhaust that lets the turbo whistle through without being obnoxiously loud. Thanks for the tip Cobaltpuller. I look forward to their reply to my questions.
