best chip for the money...undecided after search

looking to get a chip this week, i have used the search feature and am still undecided. i cant afford any tranny work right now, but will in the future. whats the best chip for my otherwise stock truck that i can either stack something ontop of later or will allow be to chose a level appropriate for a mildly built tranny once i actually get that. i was going to go with edge with attitude but recently heard they are having quality issues. i favored that one because of the built in gauges. any thoughts on this would be great.

Most people here will just tell you to do a search and choose for yourself. Me personally I would go with the Edge Juice w/att or the banks 6 gun. Its good for beginners and will grow as your truck grows. Also the safty features help alot.

Juice/Attitude hands-down... coolant temp, boost, tranny, and EGT protection... integrated digital gauges... a great box for the mild BOMBer.

I haven't heard anything on their quality problems - but I wouldn't worry about it. Edge is a great company to deal with, and any problem that develops will be corrected quickly. I bought a used EZ that developed a problem - they swapped it for me no questions asked, advance replacement, overnight shipping (at my request - with an upcharge for shipping, which I felt was perfectly fair).

Triple Dog seems like a nice easy to install option too. If you want to take it easy, just leave it in Tow mode. Plus you have the uption for upgrades on the net.

The TST's a great box, too (I run one), but IMO - if you're looking to keep the rest of the truck stock (ie. no turbo or AT mods), then having the TST is kinda like owning a Viper to drive your kids to school... more power than you need, and WAY too tempting to get yourself into trouble.

The TST now includes boost back-off, but doesn't monitor coolant temp (allowing you to roast your engine when it's cold if you're not careful), and doesn't monitor tranny abuse (it will continue fueling until your clutch packs look like Jello pudding). For the guy looking for the post power, absolutely - TST hands down. But for the mild power seeker, IMO the Juice caters to that piece of the market a little better.

And as for that guy with the Juice problems... yeah, you'll find that with every product out there. Everyone has had a problem with something. No product is 100%. But - looking at what else he's gone through (lift pumps, exhaust manifolds, transmissions) - he sounds like one of those people that goes through life with a perpetual black cloud over his head.

Check my Sig, i have a 04.5 with the edge juice and I LOVE it. only thing i hate is my weak tranny. The edge is well worth the price tag. You will HAVE to upgrade your tranny tho, at the minimum the VB(valve body) and Torque Convertor. You can get them both from dieseltrans.com. But if you just want to stay stock then dont go over lvl 3 in the edge, at lvl 4/5 i get nasty tranny slip.

Edit: for some reason my sig aint popping up on this thread but i put the answer in my post

What about fuel economy?

What have you seen if you don't keep your foot on the floor for MPG. Is it better or worse than stock?

Overhead MPG

Does all the chip/boxes mess up the overhead or not?

Yes - they all fool the computer into delivering more fuel (either through increases rail pressure, longer pulse width, or both). The computer doesn't know about this extra fuel, so it's calculations get thrown off.

In practical terms, no. If one had the equipment, ability, know-how, and time, I suppose the computer could be re-programmed with updated fuel delivery numbers - but it's just a whole lot easier to divide the miles on the odometer by the amount of gallons on the fuel receipt

Not all boxes fool with the overhead mileage. I ran an Bullydog Power Pup and the overhead never changed from what it normally read. I would assume that the only modules that are going to alter the overhead are ones the connect to the fuel pressure sensor. I could be wrong, though.
