Best All-Terrain Tire For Mud.....?

My wife hates mud lugs humming;says I can go camping by myself if she has to hear "All That".........I need good traction in mud without the road noise.

Who makes best a-t type tire for slingin mud..? Also interested in very quiet
mt's. I know they've come a long way with computer tread designs & all.

My Toyos are super quiet to be M/Ts, but the quietest AND best preforming tire I have ever had has been the BFG A/T.

What size tire are you planning on running?

I like the nitto terra grapplers since the heavy ctd makes mud and 2wd a bad equation. They grip alot better than stock. Fair price too.

I run BFG A/T's...nothing else goes on my truck. As long as you keep up the wheel speed you'll clean the mud out of them...

Ive been really pleased with the performance of my Pro Comp Extreme A/T's. Not Xterrains or A/T's but Extreme A/T's. Mine have about 14k on em with probably 75-80% tread left. They are a very quiet tire but are very capable.

Nitto Terra Grappler A/T's are the only choice for me. I love them. I have 34,000 miles on my 295's and they are still at least half tread or better. They also have a 50,000 mile warranty, who else offers that? And they are super quiet.

ProComp XTA's do just fine in MUD.

I have run BFG MT's, Goodyear MTR's, and Toyo MT's...and htese tires are darn close at low speeds...and one you light them up...they clear and grab fine.

I will NEVER go back. All of the other positives ov the XTA over a "true" MT is night and day. Quiet as OEM tires, GREAT dry, wet, and icy pavement manners/grip...

On edit...don't forget the 23/32 tread depth on some of the bigger sizes!

IIRC that would be 2x the depth of a Nitto or Toyo AT. LOL

The tread depth on these things is huge. I love it.

I can echo those sentiments. I am on my second set of Pro Comp Extreme ATs. I got 45k from the first set and as you can see on my sig I have plenty of extra weight in the front bumper and winch. I go off road alot here in SOCAL but they really performed well in Colorado during elk season. The mud is like peanut butter. This is the only AT tire I have not had to put chains on to get to my hunting camp. Plus they are as quiet as the stock Michelin LTX road tires that were original equipment.

My buddy has a long bed and runs the BFG ATs and gets similar results but he always gets stuck without the chains. They both are quiet tires but all things being equal I would go with the Pro Comp.

Chalk up another vote for Pro Comp XAT's. They are great on snow/ice and hold up real well on gravel roads. They perform a lot better in mud than I expected, not giving away much to a true mud tire. They also work better in sand than a mud tire, as the don't want to dig themselves a grave.

Pro comp XTA's will be my next set of shoes for my rig in 37/12.50/17. But I have been very happy with my BFG AT KO's also. (close to 40K miles on them at the moment, took them off my 04 hemi, and, and I still have atlest 65-70% tread left on them.

The real problem here is the wife. I never let my girlfriend tell me what to put on my truck. Boggers are my advice. jk. I have had great experience with BF Mud Terrains.

Either 285 or 295. Toyo is what he (Dealer) recommends. I like the looks & he says its the best tire on the market. I'm leanin towards 285 to keep close to orig.....don't want to lose power too much.

.....My 2nd choice if the open country m/t's are too loud. Dealer has Toyo M/T's on his truck...Gonna take the "Missus" for a spin & put her fine tuned hearing to the test...

BFG's are excellent products &........its WAAAAAAY different when the girlfriend becomes the wife of 20 years.......Hope you don't find that out the hard way....

I really like the Open Country M/T's. I had a '94 Ferd 4x4 with Kelly M/T's
(I think they were Safaris...?..Had a real open agressive tread like Buckshot
Mudders & Gumbo Mudders. I think they were among the loudest tires back then....She's been gun-shy since then.
