The 64 wheels will be slower than the 62s, but the egt comparisons between the 65 and 71 wheels will be similar to the 62 wheels. I was looking at a 64/71-13ss also, but it didn't fit my mods as good as the 62 does. Powerwise they will handle close to each other, but the curves will be different with the 65 spooling quicker and letting off a little in the high range. the 71 will spool slower but maintain more top end power. these differences would only really be important on a dyno, in your case you want good streetability also so IMO again I would choose the 64/65.

See thats what I was thinking also. a 64 will produce a little more power then the 62 of course but I wanted a daily driver I could drive not a lag monster. I know a 64/71 would run cooler but Id have to be on the gas to get it spoolin and cooled off.. I think I could live with a little less hp on top end and have a good daily driver with a 64/65. Wonder how big of a hp difference and lag difference there is between a 62/71/13 and a 64/65/13?

If your not worried about big hp or do any real big competetion drag racing or sled pulling the 64/65/13 would be more than ok. The Smarty would probably like the 71 wheel better but I don't think it's gonna hurt anything. Only thing where you could really tell the difference is ride in 2 different trucks with the 2 different turbos but that's gonna be hard to do. I think you will be fine either way you go. If it was me I would go for the bigger wheel but I like the extra hp.

Yea I am just worried about going with the bigger wheel and then it having a ton of lag from stop light to stop light.. Would it? Most of my racing is from dead stops or a slow mph roll

I believe a second gen truck, who drag races frequently went from a 64/65/14 to a 62/71/14 and made more HP, had cooler egts, and faster 1/4 mile times. He said the turbos spooled up nearly identical accept for the 62 is faster to spool once you are sitting at 7-10 psi. But out of the hole, the 62/71 and 64/65 are nearly identical.

I'd get the 62/71/13 or 14, then if you want to go bigger, all you need is a little larger compressor, no need to sell the whole turbo and start over.

yep blwnsmke, I'm in the same boat as you. I love the low end "punch"...Stop light to stop light, me research has lead me to the
HTT 64/65/13ss turbo. I believe you will miss the stock turbo punch, and you and I both have 48re's. Just my two cents.
Tell you what, you buy the 13ss, and if you DON'T like it, I'll buy it from you! I'm looking to purchase in a few months anyway! You won't be sorry, how can you lose....

hey blwnsmke, read the post by 2007 5.9 that he posted on May 14th. It may help you decide which turbo to purchase. Good Luck...

Three questions for your to think about. You have 35's so spool up will be more critical, What gears do you have? 4.10 or 3.73. Last, which TC do you have? Is it the normal real tight one. If it is, go with the 65 turbine for sure if you ever pull anything.

Some people can find the gear ratio on a glovebox sticker. If you have the window sticker still it will be on it. If you have 3.73 it won't have a gear ratio listed if the rearend is limited slip or open diff. It will tell you if you have 4.10 gears. If all else fails go to the dealers parts department and have them print you out a build sheet. So you didn't get a TC from Goerend with that full billet tranny?
