BDTD not reading trans temp
BDTD not reading trans temp
Well everything seems to be working since I hooked up the BDTD except one thing. The trans temp doesn't read right in my opinion. On a 30 mile hwy trip it stays on 70-74 degrees. Going to work this morning (4 miles) it never left 68. When I got to work I parked it and left it in gear. It eventually got up to 74 but that's it. What could be wrong.
I gotta say what a difference it makes. WOW....

Not familiar with the BDTD, but where are you reading tranny temp? If it's in the pan you will get very low readings, unless on a trip. And if living in the north, in colder weather, you may get no reading at all for local driving.

It's a Bully Dog Outlook monitor and is getting readings from the ALDL plug. Not sure where the trucks sensor is though. Maybe Bud could clue us in. Anyone else running trans temps like this using the Outlook? I have to think the commander reads the same way.
Ya mine is the same way. It usually reads about 10-20 degrees higher than the outside temp. I figured that it was reading about 50 - 60 degrees off so I just set the auto shut down with the correction factored in.
I hope that makes since.

I am running just the Outlook Monitor. I installed it two weeks ago, it alwasy read 60-70 degrees. I called the Bully Dog Support. They said it needed "recalibrated" (which doesn't make sense since it's a digital device). I just got it back from them today. After installing it, I drove for 15 miles, 8 of which were freeway. Outside temp was 38. The monitor started out at 40 degrees and never got above 60. This is crazy since each time I have to send it back, I have to pull the wiring all the way back through the firewall (pain in the butt).

I just sent it in to Buddy Kunnz. He's going to update the monitor. He said he thought the revision was too old and that was causing my problem. I haven't got it back yet. I'll write him today and make sure he got it. You should write him too and tell him the issue. Maybe together we can figure this out.

I have to say this issue is REALLY annoying since I've got to run the wires back and forth through the firewall each time I remove it and reinstall it. However, BullyDogs willingness to take care of things quickly is impressive. I hope the replacement unit will arrive quickly and do the trick.
I wish they would have put a connector behind the Outlook Monitor. This wasy you could just unplug it rather than removing the main wiring harness. Shoot, charge me another $5.... I'd a paid the higher price.
I'll let you know how it turns out next week.
Ah that's great Buddy. Thanks.
Wonder if I should be concerned that this won't fix it it like dachman1's unit. Maybe I'll hook it up under the hood first rather then fish it through the dash again. It is alot of work.
Hey while we're on this note...anyone have one of the little backplates for the unit? I broke mine in half when I tried to get it off the mount. I would think anyone that uses a pillar mount would still have theirs.

His answer.... Good luck and be careful.
