BD Torque Converter

I just got a new bd 5 disc billet torque converter today and it just doesn't feel right. It seems like my trucks just bogging down, then it finally decides to take off. The shifts are firmer and my trans temp is staying way down which I guess are the two positive things. But other than that, I don't know what the deal is. It feels like my truck has just lost power and boggs down, like I said. Anybody got any ideas whats going on? I told the guy about it and he said drive it tonight then call him tomorrow and tell him whats going on.

If the TC is locking early the load on the engine will be greater than unlocked where it is able to spin freely...the cooler temps indicate it is locking...Have you adjusted the Banks to make more power down low....if that's possible ...to compensate for the demand for more power at lower rpms. ks

Thats kinda what I was thinking because it makes since and thats exactly what it feels like, but I don't like it. The banks doesn't have a setting like that that I know of. But I'm kinda regretting the tc. It doesn't feel good, but is it supposed to be like that, and is there anything else I can do about it?

I dont know where you bought that converter, but we have never shipped a 5 disk t/c. Could it be a bully dog? I dont even know if they sell a tc. All I know is it isnt ours.

But from what you are saying it sounds like the converter is too tight. Meaning the stall speed of the converter is too low. This will dramatically change your bottom end performance.

I have a triple disc on my dually and a five disc on my regular cab...Stock power the triple seems to get up better than the 5 disc.....Add some low down power like Smarty and the 5 disc....rocks....To make power to the ground you need to have it. Get yourself a Smarty or Diablo depending on your budget and you will be all ok....the Banks isn't going to stress your drive line...the other side of it is ....did you do a valve body kit...if not then that there is 90% of your problem.

Not meaning to argue with you here, but we have had it advertised, but we have NEVER sold one. There are only 3 in existance and I know where each one is. Who did you buy it from? What is the part number? This should help to clear this up.

Ok, well no I didn't do the valve body kit yet because I didn't have the money to but I was going to do that next. I thought that maybe that would have something to do with it but I wasn't sure

The best way to do it would be to put the X stator version into your truck. You most likely have the LX version. It is a dual clutch, but on a single piston.

I bought it from J7 diesel performance in stephenville, I'd have to get the part number from Jason up there but thats what he told me. He said he got me your biggest torque converter to handle over 400 hp

It will have a bit of an effect on the overall performance of the converter, but not the low rpm performance. We have to get the X version in there.

I'm lost. Is that a kit that goes with the converter or a whole different converter?

You can also put some more power to it to help that stall speed out, but really if you arent going to go much further in hp then get the X stator version in there. We advertise them for 450hp and 450hp+. Give me a call in the morning and we can get this straightened out for you.
