What kind of a probe do you have and where exactly is it installed? for short acceleration runs, I can account for perhaps 200 degrees difference from one probe to the other. If you have a slow probe with short "K" type wire your peak temps are probably higher than you are reading.

on your probe, how long is the "type K" wire? that is, where exactly (distance and physical location) does the gnarly stiff material change into more workable copper wire?'

If you're both using the Outlook monitor then you probably have the same probe. then the difference amounts to the install (location of the K/copper junction, manifold location) and any calibration differences in the Outlook.

I'm especially nervous about those Hewett probes that seem to crop up from time to time...

the probe goes in the flat spot on the exhaust manifold near the back corner.

no. just slow. I'm sure Banks did their study and calibration work before they used it, but the bottom line is that I dont have a great deal of confidence in the Hewett probes because they are slow. So I'm guessing here that for short acceleration runs your temps are higher than they read because it takes more time for the Hewett probes to read the actual gas temperature.

At the end of the day I doubt that it matters. as I say, Banks is pretty good about their stuff. I bet sustained runs you wouldn't find so great of a difference.

Also we gotta factor in some other things too. this may not all be due to the probe. Elevation matters, and actual boost pressure does as well. your variable wastegate turbos may be behaving differently, or even if they are the same, you may be at a higher elevation.

What probe does TST use?

I have my Driprocal in the rear half of the collector and my TST probe near cylinder 3. They react almost the same speed...the rear (Diprocal) being 100-150 hotter on a hard acceleration run.

My experience makes me think these temps are spot on.

Here's a question that I've never seen asked. With all this talk of additional timing does anyone know what the max stock timing is? We know what the TST adds but what are we adding it to?

BTW, the new X-monitor uses K type wire all the way to the main box now. No more cold junction. It's super fast and about 100* higher than my old box's numbers on the top end.

It must be crazy holding on the the front of the truck with the hood open accelerating down the road to check those temps with the heat gun...

Got any video of that?
