Banks Monster Exhuast
I am thinking of getting a Banks 4" exhaust. Is it worth the money? Does anyone have one? If so what gains do you get and how does it sound?
I don't have one but have been informed that the benifit is a cooler Turbo. With the full 4" exhaust the EGT's will not go up as high, usually about 200-300degrees cooler. Thus inturn better for the engine and a possible gain in HP.
I'm in the same pickle. I'm debating on putting on a Banks Monster exhaust on also but would like to hear one to see if like or dislike the change in tone. I actually like my QUIET Diesel.

As I understand it the 2004.5's have 4" complete from turbo to tailpipe. However the difference is the stock equipment is not mandrel bent which would improve air flow...
Correct me if I'm wrong..I'd like to know for sure myself.

You're not going to notice any power enhancements from going to the complete 4" system. You'll have lower EGT and better turbo spool, but I don't think there are going to be any measureable power increases. I have a DPPI 4" kit, and personally I wouldn't run my truck without one just because I like the way it sounds.
I installed a Monster Exhaust last weekend. I wanted to cool off EGTs a little.
The sound, at least on mine, is a combination of a low mellow note and an exhaust leak. I don't actually have an exhaust leak (believe me I checked and double checked) but part of the sound eminating from the tailpipe is similar. Maybe it was always there but the old exhaust sound and that noise went together better, who knows. The mellow low note is nice. It's quiet at idle but louder than stock when you get on it some. I personally liked the quiet of the original muffler but this isn't too loud and I'm quickly getting used to it.
I wish I could tell what it did to EGTs. Prior to installation of the system I had my probe post-turbo in the elbow. Now it's pre-turbo (elbow is gone). I can't do any comparison.

Yes you will benifit from from a complete 4" system (using the banks DP).
I know first hand. I bought just the DP from Banks for 180.00, 7ft of straight pipe and a 30 inch FloPro muffler I used the factory tail pipe for the factory look. There was only one small section of tail pipe that had to be removed to retain a true 4" system.
I dyno'd the truck stock, and with the homade system using Banks DP. There was a big differance in Temps thought which had to effect the out come....
Stock readings at 55 degrees
hp 273 Tq 505
Stock with homade exhaust using banks DP 80 degrees
hp 285 tq 516
The power increase was liener from start to finish. My egts (with just the exhaust change) also dropped from 650 at 70mph to just below 600 at 70mph slighly up hill on the same streach of road. (the 600 degree reading is in hoter weather too).
So yes a small power gain across the RPM board is present with a "TRUE" 4" system. Turbo spool is quick, and the sound is really deap and very NICE with no Drone......
I couldn't be happer with my 315.00 exhaust system!

Thanks for the post's. I am trying to decide either to get the DPPI or the Banks. If I go with the DPPI I can get the dual t304. Anyone have the dual DPPI system? It would look goo on my dually.
Just another note. Fallugha is acting up agin. Marines are going to go play agin.
We have been bored since they put the chain back on us. Chain is looking like its going to come off agin.

Banks monster exhaust
I ordered the Banks monster exhaust turbo to tip a month before I received my new 2004.5 CTD. I was led to believe that it had 3.5" from turbo to muffler. When I received the package and then received the truck I was almost furious at myself for purchasing the kit before looking at the truck.
"What was I thinking?" The new 2004.5 already had 4" turbo to tip. I first removed the muffler and tail pipe. Banks did offer to take back for credit the piping from the turbo to the muffler. What the heck my son came over one day and we decided to replace the rest of the piping. In a nutshell.
I think the monster system is a waste of $1000.00....If I had it to do over again I would simple purchase a more efficient muffler and keep the stock exhaust.

BallisticDiesel,
Keep your head low over there, we appreciate your service!!!
We have the duals in 409 and 304 stainless, as well as single system in 409 and 304, aluminized is available too. Check the prics of the 409 when you are comparing to other brands as most other companies do not offer the 304 stainless only the 409 stainless.
