Banks intercooler kit....

What is the banks "technicooler" rated for boost wise?

Anyone running one? Thoughts? Dislikes? Likes?

Pourindiesel, I had a post say that it was tested to 120psi. Haisley has a very nice one, Piers has a very nice one. City Diesel has a very nice one. The banks is a nice one....Not the best for high horsepower applications, like your striving for. ks

The big difference is that the Banks Technicooler comes with all new piping, 3.5" in diameter instead of the stock 2.75. It also comes with a huge high-ram. I would imagine it flows really well.

After blasting around this past weekend, I pulled over and touched the cooler. HOT on the passenger side, chilly on the right (it was about 70 degrees out). I didn't have a temp gun to compare, but I'd say it does its job. And it looks great, too.

Id have to agree. It seems like with the few mods I have(and I do run around on 5 alot) it is holding out good. But If I had tha mods you have I would check out all of the kits and compare for yourself.

From what I gathered from the other brands that I knew of when I ordered mine this is what I found. ATS doesnt even recomend their own (the sales woman said they dont sell alot of them and I might want to get the Banks) and BD just wanted to act like there price (which was much higher without the intake and larger intake and exhaust tubes than the Banks) was justified cause theirs was the best.

I asked Banks and yes they do only test to 45 psi but I didnt find this odd as I have built alot of stainless jacketed tanks and we test the welds to alot less preassure than that just to see if it the welds leak. I would rather they not test it to its rated preassure and have the welds stressed just to prove it. I did get a warranty so if it gets a hole they will get it back.

I don’t know what to think yet. Intercooler technology is still hard to compare as they just aren't used in great numbers yet, so user experiences are minimal. From the little you can gather from chatter on the forums and reading vendor adds and white papers, I'm not sure it really matters which you go with at this point. Sure everyone has their preferences on what companies they like to deal with and who they think makes better products, but as far as capabilities, all of the claims are well beyond what any of us need. The maximum pressure ratings vary from 125psi for some to over 400psi for others. I don’t think anyone here would ever be able to bust any of them, so what's the point? They are all the same dimensions. They all claim the same 1psi or less pressure drop. The only difference seems to be internal tube design, and even that seems to make no difference at all when your force feeding it like we are and the pressure drop is the same between them. I would think if the pressure drop difference between them was like 5 psi, then that would be a measurable difference that would indicate one is flowing significantly better than the other, but we are not seeing that. At least not according to vendor adds. That kind of leaves you with who has the best deal at the time.
