Bad tranny or bad X-monitor?

I just installed an X-Monitor that pulls tranny temp off the PCM.

At first, it showed a temp of 225 degrees at initial startup of truck. It got as high as 250 degrees during my first test. I reentered the program number in the X-Monitor and it showed a more reasonable 166 degress. As I drove around town unloaded, the temps got up to 210 degrees!

Is there a problem with the tranny or is the X-Monitor displaying the wrong temps? I don't think a 48RE with 7500 miles should be getting those temps if it is working right.

I know sitting in traffic with my 47re and the gauge pulling from the dodge test port, I can hit 210. Highway unloaded I'm looking at 160-170 depending on outside temperature.

That's good to hear BigBlue. I was thinking of connecting my probe to the test port also.
Sorry to hear about your trouble belfert. I don't know what a PCM is but it must not be the right place to attach the tranny temp.

Yes those temps you are seeing can be NORMAL when going around town in stop & go traffic. This truck is HUGE and needs lots of air flowing, also the tranny really hates the fact that you upshift then down shift then upshift then downshift then upshift then downshift so darn much as it does in town. I have seen mine get to 180 in town w/o any load just because of this same reason. If you can get the tranny to stay in one gear then it will cool down. It just the nature of the BEAST.

Just put my gauge in today. Runs around 165 on the freeway. In town it runs around 175 to 180 (stop and go) and one time backed out of a driveway on a hill and then up the hill it got to 205. This is unloaded.
