Back in Black, due to popular demand

After a year or so of the Chrome wheels I have grown tired of the look. Don't think I liked it all that much any way. They did resolve my rubbing issues with the stock wheels. Function over style, that and I got tired of spending a hundred bucks every time I swapped tires around.

The migration of the truck, I really need to come up with a cool name for it.

I guess Urban Assault Vehicle, or the UAV may be a good one. Suggestions are welcome.

Progression of truck
Stock with 35s, like 2000 miles on the ticker.

Lifted on 35s and 2" Lorenz Springs

Lifted on 37s and 3" Lorenz Springs, Black Stock Wheels

This combo produced to much control arm rub.

Lifted on 37s and 3" Lorenz Springs, Weld Chrome Wheels

Soon the truck will have black H2s

What do you all think? I know what TexasCTD will think.

It should look great.
You are sticking with 37s right?
It wouldnt look bad with some stock chrome caps, but from the previous pics I see you dont like the caps...

Got a bit busy yesterday and did not get the pics posted.

Then the battery died in the camera so the overall photo does not look all that great. Ill get more done today.

Front Headlight, Blacked out.

Rear bumper, covering in black vinyl

Finished bumper, looks good from afar but far from good. LOL

Temporary $30 fix till I decide on a rear bumper.

Rear wheel view

As for the wheel finish, Duplicolor wheel paint.

http://duplicolor.com/products/wheel.html

Cost $12 for 2 cans, covered the 4 wheels. I also bought the clear but decided not to use it. I coated teh back of the wheels with some flat black I had laying around. So total cost, $30, and I have two cans of clear to use if I need.
Why paint, I had a bad experience with powdercoating and decided this was easier to fix if I scratched them... To fix, just remove wheel from truck, sand and paint. No need to have the tire removed from the wheel and all that additional cost surrounding powdercoating.

I have a couple more projects to finish on the truck this week, Ill add more info as I get it done. I will also have some better pics.

Things it took to go blacked out:
Front Bumper, Buckstop. This started it all.

Headlights
http://www.xtralights.com/ I dont see them on the page any more

ST Grill, painted with Krylon Fusion
Rear View Mirrors, painted with Krylon Fusion

Debaged, 3m Eraser wheel

Billet Door Handles and Locking fuel door, AMI Polished, Powdercoated Black, by me. The polishing sucked. I was going to return them, but just powdercoated them. Bought them when I was gong for the Black and Chrome look.

Powdercoating kit from Eastwood

Blacked out Tail Lights, Nightshade paint

Blacked out bumper, Vinyl black masking. Temp Solution, but gets the job
done. Forgot where I bought it from.

Canopy, Can Back Frame from my 1999 dodge CTD. New Custom canvas by local upholstery shop.

Hope all this info helps

thanks for the comments.

How many coats did you put on the wheels and how long do you think it'll last? I may go this route, ive been wanting to get my h2's painted or PC'd for along time.

3 coats

hoping it will last a few years, of not touch up every year is not that tough. The color will match brake dust as well, lol.

Forgot to mention, I machined out the wheels with a rotozip and a flush trim bit. It was tooooooo easy. Mounting was not a issue.

No to just get rid of the Weld wheels.

Can you get that duplicolor paint at the local parts stores or do you have to order it?

I call my truck the UAV, as does Rob Dyrdek, pro skateboarder for DC Shoes. He now has a TV show, Rob & Big, on MTV.
