Aurora 4k vs. HTT62-71-14

I was looking at the Aurora 4k as a possible turbo for my truck. What do you guys think the flow would be compared to the 62-71-14? It gives you specs on the exhaust wheel sizes but not the housing. I will probably be running NOS eventually so is the lack of a wastegate going to be an issue? I am going to be adding an upgraded CP3 and 90hp sticks at the same time.

I really like the 3yr/150k warranty on the ATS, unless it is like DC warranty. Any problems there?

ATS makes good stuff but most times you can do just as well but for less money else where. Call II or HTT and tell them what you are going to do and see what they recomend. Nitrous can be hard on a turbo(overspeeding), espcially woth no wastegate. Just my opinion.

I am not sure of the specs on the 4000 but I think the A5000 is tried and true but they have blown up before. The 62/14 Is pretty quick to spool but, not as strong on top as some of the other chargers. I guess my theory is go twins if got the money because they are awesome or get a big single and learn to deal with a little lag which, is not as bad as people put it. I love my 66

Do you think 90hp injectors would be enough to light a 66 for regular driving? 95% of the time I have the Edge on 1 and MP8 off. I guess I would have to learn to drive above 2k rpms. Right now I shift at 2k but usually cruise 13-1800 rpm.

Should I look more at a bigger charger? I was thinking NOS would make up for the short comings of a smaller charger at the track. I havent ridden in a truck with a big single but I hear from more experienced guys that the big ones arent all that bad on the 325hp engines. I would LOVE compound turbos and that is why I was looking at the Aurora turbos because ATS offers that kit for around 3 grand to upgrade to twins later.

I'm telling you, that 64/71-13ss Looks perfect for your application and 90hp stix. I think I'm either going with this one or the 62/71-13ss. They look so cool too.

if you plan trying for big power & plan on NOS , then IMO if you are going the single turbo route look at the HTT 64/71/13ss its a real nice charger especially on everyday driver application

better street manners then a 66, and still has excellent big power potential

also later if you decide on stepping up to twins it makes a mean secondary charger on top of a wastegated S480

Yes you could spool a 66 no problem. The 64/13 is a awesome charger so you could go that route and build a nasty set of twins later

66 single chargers anything but great on the street !

a 64 would be a much better choice for a single on the street everyday

of course a set of nathans MPI twins would be outstanding all the way around !

I guess it just all depends on the results you want & how much jack your willing to shell out now !

look at going with the HTT 62/71/13ss or HTT 64/71/13ss either would be far better on the street then a big single 66 and both work insane as a secondary charger in a twin set if you so choose to go that direction down the road

I been there done that 62 fun to drive 500-600 hp max very very quick to spool

66 great top end good for boost launches but lousy on the street in everyday driving conditions , no bottom end on the street, need 2-2200 rpms to get it lit.

62 is a very quick charger on the street
its also great in a twin set up........ pm me Im more then happy to tell ya all about it!

the 64 in between the two the biggest single charger IMO that makes sense on the street & everyday driving

it would be great to be able to test drive 4 trucks with the same mods you want , the only differance is each has a differant turbo setup one has a 66 , 64, 62, MPI twins

always save the best for last !

you would be blown away at the driving feel & difference between the 4 setups .

it comes down to budget and what you use the truck for

big dyno #s and race track big single turbos work well

most other real world applications big singles do not work nearly as well as smaller single turbos or twin set up

which IMO twins do offer the best real world overall drivability and performance benefits !

Well said but but I woul put into consideration 6-speed vs auto. And every 66 is not treated equal, the 66/71/16 on my friends truck is laggier and hotter with the same mods hence me going with the bullet

I Dont Know If This Applies To Third Gens, But I Talked To Ats And The Told Me That Their Turbos Are Really Designed To Work With Automatics. So For Me They Reccomended Twins. 4k Is To Small And 5k Is To Big For Ideal Situations.

Thanks for all the input. I really like the HTT stainless but I am afraid I will get one that the wastegate does not seal. I know HTT will fix it, but I do not want the aggravation. Someone told me also that those things are twice as heavy as a cast iron and might cause manifold failure.

I think I am going to split the difference. I will get a 64/71/14 and see how that works. My ultimate plan is to run a 12.999 or better in the quarter. It is mostly to prove something to myself and all the nay sayers who told me it is way too hard to do. Once I got a slip that says it, the NOS will be out of the equation. I like my truck and dont want to kill it just yet.

Yeah, you kinda have to figure it would be about the same power as a auto running 12.6-12.7's I am currently running only .3 sec behind a known 12 sec truck at the 1/8 mile mark. There will also be a double disk clutch in soon for 3rd gear launches.
