I know it has to do with the fan, which I hear running now at any RPM over 1,400.

 

Did you check the coolant level? My old work truck was an '04 and I noticed The same thing all of a sudden one day - you could hear the fan whenever you accelerated. When I stopped and got out I popped the hood and the coolant was low. It was spraying out from the water pump and the pump was rattling. New water pump was covered under 100,000 mile engine warranty.
