Anyone done the tone ring mod on an SO?
Anyone done the tone ring mod on an SO?
I haven't heard anything other than people w/ 04.5s and newer doing this. Is it worth the time when my Quad box already advances timing on the higher settings?
I would ask quad when the timing kicks in on the other settings. the only advantage would be that if the quad box did not give the timing until a higher rpm. where as the tone ring or sendor mod give you the advace from idel on up. I know he said it was safe to use but he did not really explain where the timing kicked in on his box.
if read through the 9,000 page thread on the sensor mod there are some 03-early 04 people who have done it.
I bought the sensor for my 04.5 and I do think it helped the milage about .5-.75mpg. did not notice much else.

I'll have to read the whole thing when I have a couple of hours to blow!!
I guess it would help when I'm on the 65hp setting on the Quad. I don't think it adjusts timing on that setting...

it took me some tinkering, but now that ive got it right, its a killer improvement with my tow box.at first,i didnt think it did much at all, then when i got back looking at it,i had a burr that was keeping me from getting the full advance.with the ring full forward,i measured it at 2.6 degrees advance.if you can ask quad, its my understanding hes getting about 3 degrees advance from the data port.so,if in fact those numbers are correct, you could get about the same advance on your 65hp setting as others...i can tell you,its pretty much a night and day difference.the tow box doesnt have the data hook-up at all,so it really wakes it up with the ring mod.the tow box added a nice kick in the pants, but with no smoke hardly at all.it still had the same feeling to the powerband, kinda lazy till about 1900,then would light off and pull good, with the ring mod added, anything half throttle or more, will leave a small smoke trail till you let up on it,with alot stronger pull across the board.it starts off strong now, with no light off to be felt now, just a really good pull all the way.as for comparison,id say it now pulls every bit as strong, and smokes just as much,as my 02 with dd3`s and a puck on it did........quad says its not to much timing with any of his boxes,so im guessing the 3 degree advance is about right, which would put you at nearly 6 degrees total with ring mod......im very happy with my quad box, especially with the ring done now......................bama

yeah that thread is ginormous. I don't even think I have read every page I just kow one guy with an 03- early 04 was saying he gained. One other guy said his overhead milage went down but I don't like treating the overhead as gospil.
I did read a post with someone who has a race box like yours saying that this mod made a differrence in his tractionl. he could just burn the tires after the mod and before the mod it hooked up better. this is all hearsay though. I am buying the race box for the wife for christmas so I got this hoping they would play well together.
