Any problems with '06

Hey guys I'm looking into getting an '06 and was wondering if anyone has any specific problems with their truck. I haven't been on in a while and haven't heard much but was just wondering. I have an '07 with the 6.7 that's awaiting Chrysler's decision to lemon it. I should be hearing something in the next week or so and I am just planning on going back to the 5.9. Let me know and thanks in advance.

No problems here, nor any that I know of particular to the '06-'07.0 model years.

Weaker automatic transmission flexplates is the only thing I can think of, but that's easily fixed.

the 06 has a dual mass flywheel. south bend has a kit to replace it. the kit comes with new hydraulics and disk good for 450hp and 1000ft lb torque and the flywheel has a real bearing in it. we have three 06's and each failed before 50k. we tow heavy and that is probably why it showed up early on ours. the #4 injector line failure problem seems worse on 06 than other year models the cummins part # 4988808 for $25 if it has not already been replaced will be needed. the gearing in the 06 is the best for towing i have ever had. to get your mpg up is a little pricey but worth it if you drive a lot. the wiring on the 06 is different than any other models and mid 06 there was some minor changes, this will only concern you if you add accesories, not a problem, just different

No problems yet, but the tachs seem to be more of a problem in 06. The little red hose between the turbo and block seems to leak on the 06. Easy fix.

Yes I was leaking coolant out of my hose too. Just tightened up the band clamps and fixed the problem. I have heard that some 06 trucks got a bad batch of injectors. Mine has been ok so far, but I hear a tap before the boost comes on. Could be an injector!

My #4 high pressure fuel line went bad, as stated above. Also my a/c compressor went bad the other day on way back from Alabama through Chattanooga. No big deal, it was just June in the deep South, so it was only 100 degrees. I still love my 06, but I will have to say that it has the most uncomfortable seats I have ever owned in a pickup, I will have to get some custom seats if I ever start traveling over 2 or 3 hours on a regular basis. Only thing I would do different is get a Laramie, if only for the heated seats to soothe my aching back after a few hours in the poor seat. I would buy it again, and I love the G-56 (does have a solid flywheel now though), It pulls like a dang freight train in 6th gear on Interstate. Geared perfect for towing, not so good bobtailing, unless you get taller tires. Hope this helps a little.

So what do we have now. Some may continue 07 and up:

Bad batch of injectors ...... most trucks. May be worse in 06
HVAC ...... all trucks
Little red coolant hose ...... specific to 06
Dual Mass Flywheel ...... specific to 06
Crazy Tach ...... specific to 06
#4 Fuel Pressure Line ...... specific to 06

The DM flywheel is NOT specific to the 06. The DM flywheel started in 06 cuz that's when the G56 came out, any truck with the G56 will have the DM flywheel.

My 06 has been great, 3 years and only thing done was the front axle U joints.

My BDTD and X2 have me up in the 500 HP range.

we get a universal padded bucket seat cover from western auto. and install it take seizors and cut where the padding is by the legs and remove a little at a time until it fits then we get a quart of contact cement and a piece of leather big enough to cover it coat both and stick together. i get the leather about as heavy as my welding jacket. this gives a very comfortable seat that will last a lifetime for about $150. also forgot the cooling hose leak,
