Anti-theft question for Qzilla or Smarty
Anti-theft question for Qzilla or Smarty
Is there a way to use a Quad Race box as an anti-theft device? Either by removing it completely or splicing a few wires to kill the box with a hidden switch?
What would happen if a thief were to try to start the truck without the module is basically what I'm asking. And if this was attempted, would the truck still run normal after the box is back in place?
And for Bob, same question. Can the Smarty be used to tell the ECM not to start or something similar?
I don't have a Smarty but am on the fence to get one.
Or this is just a really bad idea? Anyone..

Being so close to the border, they steal them and use them to haul illegals and drugs back in, or they take them down there and get new titles issued and then sell them for a nice profit. One nice thing is, they just busted a chop shop about 3 weeks ago, there were like 40 stolen cars sitting out in the lot. I have had 2 rigs stolen here in Phoenix, one was found across town after being gone for 3 weeks and $7000 in damage, the other was never found. It's not like the old day when I lived in Oregon, I left the keys in the ignition all the time.
That's great - I'm getting of that fence now...
So - I guessing, I can get the current Smarty - Download the update when it's available and when I want to disable the truck.. update the ECM and reverse the process when I get ready to roll again. Is that basically the process? 5 minutes each time? Any risk?
Very cool..
The reason why I'm asking is because I'll be moving my family to the Great Northwest in mid June from the east coast... Our road trip takes down to the southern states.. AZ being one of them. I want piece of mind that my truck will still be there when I wake up every morning...
and start back up as well..
Thanks Bob

Not that it wouldn't be a welcome addition to the Smarty features . .
Get a Ravelco unit, only takes a second or two to disable, then a second or two to enable. It was tested extensively in Mexico and is used by the Mexican gov on their vehicles. The thieves know all about it and for some reason don't bother with the Ravelco vehicles.

There's a very easy anti theft device that can be wired up within minutes. Many here have it already.... it's the TC lockup switch. I double switched it with a hidden switch that I can flip and since it will "hopefully" never get used, it won't hurt the tranny. If you flip the hidden switch and someone tries to steal it, as soon as it is put in D... the TC locks and kills the truck... pretty simple.. any gear they stick it in, it will die. Of course, you need a Auto..
After reading the updates for the 98-02 Smarty, it looks like on SW#0, you could still start the motor, but it would immediately die when it has a load.
I guess the compromise is you lose the half power mode. Just a guess.
I looked at the Ravelco, it looks like a good solution but it's also $$ that I'd rather put on a Smarty.
The TC solution also sounds good and will try it for other reasons..
but I'm really trying to justify to myself that I need to buy a smarty..
this feature would be a great addition.
Thanks for the input.

dodgezilla04 - Moving to Richland. Need a change of pace from the Washington DC area. This area is going to get worst when BRAC kicks in.
I don't want to be around to see it. I have no idea what I'm getting into in Richland but I have friends there that say it great. I guess I'll find out soon.

How do I learn how to do the TC switch? There were 3 Dodge dsl trucks stolen in my town Pahrump this weekend so I am looking to to do something. We are quite a ways from Mexico so I guess they are driving all the way there from Vegas?
