Another help me pick a turbo thread.
Sorry guys I know there is a ton of these kind of threads, and I have read a lot of them but I’m still confused. My plans for the truck are a DD and I do tow with her not a lot but when I do it’s in the 13k lbs range. So I can’t decide on a turbo, or injectors/tips, I don’t want to go any bigger than 90’s on the tips. I already have a Smarty so that will be my main electronics. What turbo do you guys suggest? I have the GPD mk2 filter kit installed so I plan on installing a Raptor 150? and also installing additional F/W separator under the truck. I don’t really have an HP goal in mind maybe 550ish? The numbers don’t really matter to me, a fun street truck and a good tower is all I care about. Oh and should I do the LP before I even start looking into turbos and injectors/tips?
Do your lift pump first. On turbos Its a tough call i agree. 64/65 seems like a good suggestion but have read of ppl having heat issues with them. 62/71 is also a great choice but can be slightly laggy with a load. Considering you will do tips and fuel system, a 71 wheel would probably be fine and give you a little more top end cooling. JMO you could also go with a Garrett BB if your willing to endure the extra parts and work like water line and exhaust flange adaptor.
I love my turbo. Since I put it on my mileage has gotten better, driving manners are better when you aren in a massive hurry, egts stay in check (never see past 1350*) and the power curve is unreal! Towing it does get a little laggy, but if you roll into the throttle it picks up boost pretty quick and has good recovery. It will be different and something to get used to, but it will tow 15k fairly well.
Oh and I usually tow every day, whether its my mower, full loads of wood, my travel trailer, my toys, or my ol Ford 3000.

I installed a 62/65/12 in my 2006, I really liked it's spool, very close to the stock turbo kicking in. My EGT's got better, a little fuel mileage gain as well. I tow a 12~13K 32' TT and a 3-horse GN with LQ, it's right at 18K, so it was very important to get my EGT's down, they were a little higher than I was comfortable with and I lost about 100*s or so with the 62. I am at 7K ft altitude, and I spend a lot of time towing anywhere from about 3500' to 9K ft, altitude has it's issues when it comes to EGT's.
Long story short, I decided I wanted to lower the EGT's more, so I now am installing an S475 under my 62. I have ridden in a couple trucks configured the way I'm doing mine, the EGT's were about 400*s less than the stock turbo with tons of power to spare.
No more driving fixed on my EGT gauge constantly worrying if I'm going to cook my truck.
