AirDog install - Now starting hard
AirDog install - Now starting hard
Had a small leak at inlet to CP3 after installing an AirDog. The AirDog worked great! Except the leak.
Reinstalled/retorqued the elbow going into the CP3. The elbow is tapped for a pressure sending unit. I used teflon tape at both the CP3 and the tapped fitting. The leak is gone.
BUT - Now it's taking 2-3 times to start (for 100K miles it's always started on 1st turn of the key). I also feel a shudder starting out in 2nd gear. Other than that it feels like it runs fine, once started. I'm showing constant 22PSI on fuel gauge, getting up to 20+ on boost gauge when accelerating.
I also had a P0148 Pressure Common Rail (HPCR) Check sum code come up after the reinstall. Thought that was just getting the fuel purged?
What did I do, something to do with the teflon tape? Overtorquing the fuel gague sensor?

THe fittings that come with the airdog are machined fittings therefore there should be NO tape/sealer of any kind used on the fittings. They just need to be torqued down to the right amount.
Also when you are starting your truck do you give the airdog a couple seconds to prime itself and get the air out of the system before you try to start or do you just crank it the instant you put the key in. If you do the latter you need to give the airdog about 5 secs to prim from the leakdown that occers form it sitting. If you have any more questions feel free to give me a call at 508-340-4723. I just went through this install on my 06 and had some of the same problems.

I do wait for the lite to go out 2-3 secs. Is the "leakdown" you mention - something like gravity pulling fuel down (air getting in the lines)? I didn't have any of that the first week before I fixed the leak. Should be a closed system...am I missing something?

It sounds to me like you have too much fuel pressure. I experienced the same things when I put an extra pump on the framerail. It would run fine after it started but would act just like yours is. Two or three times to get it started. I would turn the pressure down to around 15-16psi and try that.
I also thought that the fuel pressure on the commonrails should be in the mid teens. I installed my airdog last week and i have not had any hard starting issues or anything. I will be hooking up a fuel pressure gauge tomorrow so i know where i am at. I think your alright using the teflon tape on the fuel pressure port fitting, but on all the other fittings, you do not need any. The fitting that goes into the cp3 and replaces the stock banjo bolt has a rubber oring so you dont need any teflon tape there either.
It started fine and ran fine for a week at 22psi (just had a tiny leak). So I'm not convinced it's the pressure.
This "leakdown" is starting to make sense. After sitting overnight the last two days (12 hours), it needs 3 cranks on the ignition. After sitting 8 hrs at work 1-2 cranks. Sitting for 4 hours this afternoon, started on first crank.
I'm gonna try and reconnect the blue fuel line and put a hose clamp to make sure no air is being sucked in from the weight of the fuel in the bigger line.
Thoughts?
