Air intake Manifolds
Air intake Manifolds
how much is to be gained by replacing the stocker with an aftermarket manifold? I need a little more bottom end power and was thinkin about this part. which one is the best?
I say just pick the style that you like. But don't get a Banks. Their design doesn't improve anything.
The Lazarsmith made a nice difference in the low to midrange for me (where it really counts). Dropped 2 psi cruising at 70 mph and about 50 degrees EGT, and the turbo spools up much quicker. SMARTY at 7, TM 2, Timing 2 and no rail pressure.

check out left coast diesels website they did some dyno runs with the big three and posted the results on a mild modded truck, intresting stuff. and a cam and springs with install is way above a 350 part you can put in yourself in a few mins drunk as hell.
I like my GDP. Got it awhile ago but agree with the test, it does make a differance performance and sound.

I read plenty, thanks. Forums tend to breed hysteria. The cases of them (CFM) blowing seem to have more to due with rapid temperature change (tons of N2o, high pressure water meth, etc) combined with a lot of boost. Just like with anything else in the truck, if you stress it enough, you'll find a flaw somewhere.
The GDP, as I mentioned earlier, is a great choice as it tested in 2nd place and its significantly cheaper. As a piece of steel, it won't likely be the place you find your next week spot. Can't go wrong with either, but if you have concerns about massive boost or massive temp changes...save some dough and get the GDP

In my earlier post, I thought we were talking Air Intakes. As far as the Air Horn goes, I love mine. Whether it was or is in my head, I really thought I noticed a difference in throttle response, but this may be a compination of 2 things. I installed my ATS exhaust manifold and the CFM at the same time so....

Jk, Yeah DONT buy a banks intake, but if you dont listen very well, then I have one for sale
On a serious note, I dont see a pressure box in your sig, and for low end power I would get an MP8 or a Quad pressure box to stack w/ your smarty.
I run an aftermarket intake horn and can't say they really help anything, but it does look good!I know guys running alot more hp than myself aren't using them.My personal opinion is they are not needed.Boost is a measurement of restriction.Less restriction equals lower boost and last I checked the heads are the biggest restriction on our trucks. No matter how much you open up the route for the boost it still gets choked at the head.A cam will help improve the flow but very expensive if you don't do the install yourself. If you want some more bottom end I would spend my money elsewhere, pressure box,cam etc..If you want it for looks, get it,they do look nice.
Lighten' up on banks there Tomball!
