Aftermarket DVD player in an 05 and stereo upgrade

Hey guys.

I had a Kenwood fold out DVD player in the past and it broke (CD mechanism). I drive a lot on rough roads so this did it in I guess. They could not fix it on warranty so I got my money back (not bad at all).

I am looking to replace it. I'd like a dvd player again, but would like good stereo options. I want backup camera, bluetooth and usb capability. I would also LOVE to stay away from fold outs, but, I understand our dodgers are 1.5 din vs. 2 din like everything else. I don't want to hack up my truck to fit a 2 din in there, unless someone makes a dash cover that works with 2 din, OR, someone makes a 1.5 din dvd.

I would go with another foldout if that is what it takes.

I also need to go with a sigle or dual sub (would like to keep as much storage space as possible) and am wondering on what size the stock speakers in the doors are, and, are they hard to remove and replace. My stock 05 stereo is basic cd player slt truck. No infinity here.

Anyone have pics of their setups?

Thanks,

Igor.

I like pioneer and I know a lot of people speak highly of their head units, but I am unsure of the dvd players. My buddy has a sony and I dont care for it at all.

I just put 6x9s in my front doors and it kinda was a pita, I cut the door panels out to fit them only to find that the basket and magnets were so deep that the speaker had to be spaced out cause if not the windows would hit and not roll down. I put 5.25s in the rear as I didnt see the need to spend the extra $ for 6.5s when I dont think I could of heard a diff, and was told that I would not hear a diff.

There are a lot of good amps out there but I only use JL, and is what I recomend.

With the 300/4 pushing my Pioneer D series 6x9s, 5.25s, and silk dome tweeters it is crystal clear and really too loud to listen to if you turn it up.

I have had Audiobahn, Boston Acustic and am currently upgrading to Diamond audio.

I Run the 6 1/2" pro series components in the front dorrs and 5 1/4" in the rear doors and 2 10" subs under the seat.

The 2 din will fit and the Kenwoods are great units take a look at the 710 or if you want Nav it can be added or a 7120 that has built in Nav.

JL, Boston Pro, Audiobahn, Diamond HEX, Infinity Kappa series all good systems.

I am extremely happy with my Pioneer AVIC N4. Its a fold out, but much cleaner looking than any of my other screens. has Bluetooth, MP3, not sure on USB but it will read picture discs for custom background options!

As far as subs go, you really can't go wrong with any of them if you hook them up right and run the right power to them. Nothing hurts a sub more than being overpowered or underpowered seriously. I was a beta tester for proBox and for a mid range sub they do very well. they have single and dual loaded sub enclosures, ported or sealed, in a 10" or 12" sub. they have a very clear bass and sound good with a stock speaker setup or aftermarket. as far as speakers go, I've had nothing but good luck out of Memphis, have had no reason to complain...

rip can you post pics of your sub box.
Also I was told that the newer dodges need some kind of cam bus box deal to install a aftermarket deck guy said it was 60-100 bucks depending on which stock radio I had is this true.

Only thing you need if you don't have the Infinity system is an installation kit, which consists of the trim, wiring harness that will plug into your stock plug, and antenna adapter. never heard of no can bus deal being needed.

For the record i no longer have the proBox i was beta testing, i was looking for more bass and more space, now i just have a big box in the back seat that i take out when needed. Convenient enough for me.

I went from the probbox sealed 600 watt rms 12s to the ported 600 watt 8s and the 8s drop as low but hit the mids better

My stereo guy showed me an awesome box that goes under the rear seat and uses Pioneer shallow mount 12's. I heard them and they sound really good. I wish I would have bought a Mega Cab, my truck would have 3 JL 12's across the back.

The stereo guy was saying since there is no keyed power going to the stock stereo that I need some box to make a aftermarket deck work I think only 2006 and up need them.

It could be possible, but I frequent the local shop alot, and the owner would tell me something about that knowing all about my truck. No keyed power, that really don't make sense to me, your main control is normally the key to power the radio. The harness (you can get at Walmarts) should tie itself into most needed wires on the aftermarket stereo (including 12v). Maybe if you could get him to show you what he is talking about, and show you why its needed you can decide for your self. I would be a little skeptical right now. Maybe some other 06-07 owners with aftermarket stereos can chime in on this.

I was thinking that I should just install it my self like I do all my stuff. The only thing I need to know is how do you take out the stock radio. If I really need this box I think I'll just run my own keyed on source to get it done.
Rip if you happen to go to your local shop sometime soon could you ask that owner.

Called the owner, he explained there is a can bus interface that switches the accessory power on the 05-up. That explains why i haven't heard of it much. Supposedly the stock radios 12v is ineffecient for any more than itself. Looks like Crutchfield has a big sale going on, buy a radio get the interface half off!

I think I'm gonna get mine off of ebay if the stereo shop won't sell it to me for 60 since I'm gonna be spending a good amount of money with them.
