Question Aftermarket bulbs for foglights

Does anyone know if 9005's will work in place of a 9006? I know that the 9005 is a high beam bulb and the 9006 is a low beam. Do they have the same connector though. If so, wouldnt it be brighter to run the 9005 instead of the 9006 the book calls for? Need some help because im getting ready to replace the bulbs and want to upgrade.

Wasted your money on the Geno kit although it is a good kit. This swap is an old trick for the civic and integra guys (which I own an integra.) Did the swap the first week of having the truck.

All you have to do is take the oring off the 9006 and add it to the 9005 so that the 9005 has 2 orings and trim the tab a little on the left side. You also can use a razor blade to flatten out the 2 ridges in the bulb connector as the 9006 only has a single ridge. Maybe I should post pics as a how too someday.

I know Geno's does a great job at marketing but you can get alot better results doing things yourself.

A few months ago, I searched the topic and found out that all you need to do is to cut a tab off a 9005 bulb and it will install no problem.

I had PIAA's in the fogs but I wasnt happy so I ordered a set of 9005's from www.hoen-usa.com.

You can also wire up your fogs highbeam, ect all by your self with a little wire and connectors rather then spending alot of money on the genos stuff.

The genos stuff is great if you dont know how to work on trucks but even if you have a little knowlede and use the Search feature you can do alot of stuff better and cheaper.

Some guys spend alot of $$$ on lighting things the wrong way. They spend $300+ on all the genos gadgets + all new bulbs and your over $400 and still left with poor regular headlights. Yeah the highbeams are great but you can't drive around others with them on.

There are better options out there

Look in my gallery for pics modifying the 9005 bulbs to fit in 9006 sockets.
Can't remember exactly but the o-rings is either #114 or #116.

Yep same here. You can also get a couple of relays and wire them in so that when you turn your high beams on, your highs, lows, and fogs all come on.

Someone sells a kit that cost $$??? But you can get everything and do it yourself for under $20.

Guys I did research it, however for $22 I dont have to mess with cutting bulbs. Im not that much of a cheap donkey, and it really is only temporary anyways. Within a few months, and aftermarket front bumper is going on, with two sets of lights in it. I didnt get the bright box kit, just the two harnesses and the two orings. Personally I dont get offended easily, however there are people out there that would be quite upset that you would belittle them for spending some money. Especially when there are people out there dumping $1500+ on turbo upgrades and ect. just for the fact of saying "I got... you fill in the blank"

I bought the britebox for the simple fact of plug and play and easy removal if need be. I know how to work on cars......LOL but it was worth it not having to cut any wires on my new truck. I did mod the bulbs though instead of buying the additional harness though.

No belittling intended. Only was trying to say that you didn't have to spend the $22 plus shipping for harness' that will require you to trim the tab and add the oring anyway. You can do that without the added harnes and the 9005 works great.

If you read Geno's description you will have to trim the tab anyway.
To seal the bulb to the fog light housing, they supply thicker silicone o-rings. A quick modification with a file trims down the center tab.

I guess maybe I had read into it a bit much. My apologies. It had been a rough day, and then shortly after realizing I had ordered the wrong bulbs I found out that the exhaust that I had ordered over a week ago that was supposed to be drop shipped from the warehouse and be there before I got home friday was out of stock. I talked to them again today, and they are shipping it right from the manufacture now, but it may still not make it until monday. Again I am sorry if I came off like an A$$hole.
