AFE Stage 2 Pro Dry S Pics and Review

The Perks: Well, it is a bit louder than my K&N was, which to me is a good thing...this thing really whistles. My engine temps are running about 3-4 degrees cooler. It's a cleaner looking install than the K&N. It doesn't have to be oiled like the K&N. My throttle response seems a LITTLE more responsive, but that just might be me trying to trick myself into liking it more

The So-So: EGTs are about the same as the K&N...not a good thing, not a bad thing, so to say as they weren't out of control unless I was at WOT, and the filter probably won't be a noticible help in EGTs until I get a bigger turbo.

The Bad: And I emphasize BAD This thing is a REAL PITA to get to fit into these trucks. The tube BARELY fits between the turbo and the oil filter (I was considering pulling the oil filter to get it fit in there...no lies). The boot is the BIGGEST PITA of all of it. Because there is no room for the tube to fit down in there while still making sure that the filter is still in the housing where it should be and NOT getting damaged. I had to make 4 trips from in the engine bay to under the truck tugging on that boot to get it over the turbo inlet tube (I was considering dropping the turbo to get the boot on there but decided against it). Getting the filter seated in the housing properly to get the cover to fit while being VERY careful not to damage the filter...yeah, PITA. And last but not least...the price. $390 shipped for a Pro Dry S is no joke, but overall worth it to me if it breathes better and filters better at the same time.

Sorry for the novel fellas.

Looks great! I have the same AFE Stage II with the ProDry. Not sure if the clearances are different on my '05 to your '06, but my filter seemed to fit in their with a lil bending, but nothing major. You have to take them out periodically to shake and blow them out, so try this next time. I think I put the open side in first, straight down below the torque tube, then, wiggle it up, bending a lil bit to get it over the torque tube. Hope this helps a bit.

ive got an 06 and I bought a used stage 2 afe to see what I thought. It fit very poorly and when i ran it I didnt even use the box the holds the filter. I ran the tube itself and the filter. I like afe stuff but I sold the setup because I didnt really care for the tube being againist my oil filter. I shoved everything againist the turbo as far as possible. that did not solve the problem. I would have been very mad if I had paid 400 for it new.

That sucks that you couldn't get everything together. Mine all fit together properly...it's just VERY snug. The tube BARELY clears the oil filter...the tube BARELY clears the intake housing, and the cover BARELY covers the filter in the housing. But in a WAY, I am kinda GLAD that it all fits together so snugly...it FEELS like a quality piece of equipment, rather than a flimsy piece of junk.

The way I plan things is since it will be nearly impossible to get the oil filter out now because of the intake tube being in the way...I will remove the intake fully every time it is time to change the oil and oil filter, clean the intake while it's out and put everything back together. Yeah, it's a PITA, but I feel good about having quality equipment in my truck.

I like afe stuff. I do think they make quality products. I ran a torque tube and a stage 1 for 2 years and that setup always worked out good for me. but I was dumb and sold it all to get something better. the stage 2 just fit bad on my truck. I have bad luck with exhaust also. but we wont get into that. I think the stage 2 is the best out there as far as air flow. I still have a stage 2 filter that I want to build an intake with.
