Like the others say you will hear the turbo. It also seems that it spools up a little faster and looks cool when you pop the hood. However if you don't want to spend that much try doing *****'s Whistler Intake.

diesel trucks are basically air and fuel, once you put more fuel in, you need more air to balance out the mixture, stock air intakes are for stock fuel settings, more fuel needs the air or you will just blow smoke like so many jokers out there. i cant remember where i found it but there is a graph that shows fuel to air cfm mixtures for optimum power. up to 500hp at the crank, replacement air filter in the stock box will do fine, over that and you need stageII stuff, intake manifolds, and so on. i need my trucks for work and keep them below 450hp, i like the big air intakes for ease of removal when cleaning and of course that sweeeeeet turbo sound.

i have the k&n, the intake tube is considerablely smaller than the turbo, so i have to crank the clamp down really tight. is the afe tube the same size as the turbo?

I have the stage 2 and for a while ran with the silencer ring removed. It was louder than my exhaust. Now the silencer ring is back in and the truck runs great.

I put the stage 2 on and have about 8k on it i had a instant mpg jump avrage of 1.5 and better low end preformance. Yes it is louder and now i can get some turbo bark if i get off it fast but that is more driving style then anything. it can be avoided. Over all it is a little expencive but worth the money. I would do it again.

AFE stage II is a joke@ maybe if I could make it so the box did not surround it and rob it from its true potential, maybe a reason also is that im running a dry filter as well?
Im going to the scotty II

Those number i got doing the numbers by hand. Now this being said I put the intake on after the edge. The combo might be the key to the mpg jump and the afe alone may not me as large.

As for the surround around the filter. Its purpose is to sheild the filter and incoming cooler air from the hot air comming through the raidator, intercooler, condencer and the engine it iself. Unfortunatly dodge didnt realy provide a clear path for airflow or means to inprove it. I have only seen two real optons to inprove on the design. One is to insall a ram hood that is functional and adapt the sheilds to the hood ductwoork or put a custome grill on the outside of the fender. The oem air path is ok but leaves alot of room for improvement. One other concern when it comes to the filter is water. a direct air path sounds great untill it rains and your engine is breathing through a wet tampon.
