Angry AFE in - Filter minder still at 65%...

Well, I was hoping the minder wouldn't move with the new AFE Proguard 7 filter but it is acting the same as before. Does anybody know the part number of the new and improved minder?

Why don't you do the cheap air box mod with a 4" plastic elbow on the bottom of the airbox. I did mine over a 1k miles ago and installed a new filter, the filter minder is still sitting at 0%. Before the mod it would read 35% with a new filter.

MikeyB,

I didn't do the elbow mod but I did drill 4 1" holes in the bottom of the box and that did not help any. I covered the holes with duct tape a week ago because I was getting so much dirt in the air box that my brand new stock filter clogged up so badly that the truck started to run really crappy. I have not uncovered the holes yet to see if it helps any w/ the new AFE filter...

I know that the minder does not pull down if you run it with no filter at all...

Mine pulls down to 65% also since new. Came off assy. line in 12/02. I understand the part # is the same as original except the last letters. Old # is 53032749AA - New # is 53032749AB. Got to get mine changed too. Hope this helps.

As far as I can tell with the stock box, the spring in the filter minder is too weak. Probably came from a F**D intake.
I read somewhere that the new part still pulls down to 35%. Now if I am as observant as I think I am, DC changed the air box on the 325/600 and its now bigger. I wonder if they went that way to have more air volume and less pull on the minder?

Anyone with a 600 out there able to tell me if they blocked the fender inlet and plumbed an air pick-up to the front? I see a plastic plenum type piece there but the dealer still does not have a 600 in yet. We have one coming in but its just getting built.

I also did the 4" hole in the bottom thing and my filter minder stays put, the filter is no dirtier than before, and no moisture problems. Four one inch holes are not the same as one four inch hole.

I guess I need to just quit looking at the minder or just take it off altogether. I just like my stuff to work right. Thanks CAKUZ. I'll let you know how it works if I try it.

Scotty - In the past, I did some testing on motorcycle air boxes...the bigger the better. Simply for volume. This is naturally aspirated though. Not sure if the same would apply with a turbo sucking air into the system>>>??? - JKE

boy, have I got some learning to do.

Hey Guys,

Mine was showing at 35%........ then I reset it about 1k about only have 2.8k on the truck now..... Since being reset, it hasn't budged. I just sits down about the 5 or 10% mark...... Has anyone else seen this?

Nitro, It sounds like you have one of the newer re-calibrated units which are not the problem. The earlier 03s like mine will suck down to 65% after just a couple of miles....

I don't have a camera right now but I just went out and looked at my filter the only outlet is to the fender well behind the passenger side headlight. This is my first diesel so I can't compare to other model years.

It makes no sense to me that an AFE Proguard 7 would cause the Filter Minder to such down as much as the stock filter. Makes me think the AFE doesn't flow that well?

I have a very accurate suction gauge at work I am thinking about rigging to my truck then testing some air filter setups, comparing stock to Amsoil dropin, AFE drop-in, AFE cone, Scotty3, etc.
I would compare WOT from a dead stop, and WOT at say 60 and 80 mph.
