75hp injecters and black smoke......

I installed the new injecters from JL Machine (the guy that does them for II and some others, and I know some of you think II does them all themselves but that is not true, but that is not the point here) He made them in between the stage one and two custom for me. He said they should be 70-75hp. They work great, plenty of power and no noticable loss of mileage, it may even be a little better than before. But it sure rolls out the black smoke, even if the boxes are turned down or off. I can barely keep it from drizzling some out if I take off like an old lady. My turbo is stock for now and I was going to wait till spring to put my new HTT SS 62/13/65 on but I may do it yet this winter. Will that keep it from smoking so bad at take off? I have my Juice/Attitude set for lowest smoke at low boost fueling. A buddy with a 2nd gen said to try and advance timing. I don't think the stack I have can do that. Anyone have a suggestion for me? Or is this just what I have to live with?

I dont know if JL does II all the time. II has used several sources, etc.

For the record, no one does any of our parts, testing, etc. This rumor is being told all over the place.

Now to the smoke isssue. I would say the Edge is the culprit. How does it smoke with just the injectors and turbo? Like that, it should have very low smoke with a 75HP injector in the winter climate times.

Also, double check all the intercooler connections.

I had the Juice on level 0 and the EZ on level one. And it smokes just as bad, I was wanting to get your 1.8's Don but I ended up getting these for half the money of yours and I was pinched at the time. I did get a core set of injecters and had JL do up those and I still have my stock (still work fine)set that will be coming to you when funds get a little better. I told John at JL Machine that I wanted an injecter that did not hurt mileage and didn't smoke. He said this would be a borderline for what I wanted, Just a little more smoke than I wanted. It will also hit 1450 degrees when I hammer on it.

No Problem. I understand that cost is a factor with everything. Included in our cost is a complete inejctor flush out and a test bench run so we can catch any potential problems if there are any. You know that old saying "an ounce of prevention could be worth a pound of cure"

Try running it with everything turned off. EZ and Edge. I am surprised it smokes like you describe. If you have the adjustable EZ, could you have gotten the little switches in the wrong locations?

No chance here the little connector switches are misplaced. I will try and set to stock or just unplug it though. And Diesel Injection Service in Grand Rapids,MI tested the injecters before and after the tips were EDM'd, I did have to get 2 new tips before EDM'd and I put them in. There was a very bad haze at idle and I knew something was wrong. I sent them back to DIS and they found another bad tip, John replaced that one for free and also covered the $175 test charge. I put them back in and all is good now except for the black smoke. I did set the low boost fuel from level 1 to level 5 and it doesn't seem to change much if at all with the smoke. It will leave a wall of black smoke you can barely see thru for about 100-150 yards if I take off mildly aggressive, it seems to clear up when the boost gets up past 28-38 psi.

Yes, they are tight, and no cracks in them. These dump smoke like my buddies 24v 2nd gen with your 200hp injecters. I also installed new gaskets top and bottom of grid heater. would a clamp cause this much smoke? Maybe I should take off each boot and inspect more thourgh. Everything seemed fine before the swap though.
