How bad is the the drone in the cab for those who installed the 7 inch miter cut stacks? How did you prevent rain water / snow from filling the stacks especially during a down pour? Any input or comments is greatly apprecaited.

 

I have a single 7" miter and I just removed it so I could get it powder coated, I put a 5" stack on while the 7" gets done and I can tell you the 5" is a TON less noisy compared to the 7" the 7" is deeper but so deep it is loud!!!
that being said the 7" LOOKS WAY better then the 5" IMHO so my 7" will go back on
I just had a small rain storm come by a few days ago and I did not cover the stack when I got out in some traffic it spewed some soot on my sons power wheels that was in the bed of the truck...not a huge mess but yes some soot..I also noticed some soot on my tailgate/sideback of the bed.

the stack is worth all that IMHO I love it
my exhaust set-up is....
5" turbo back with a 5"X51" Donaldson to a GR 7" miter stack.
even with the huge muffler it is still pretty loud

 

Do it, you won't regret it! I am looking for a deal on 7 in turnouts for mine already!! I can't remember the link but just ran accross it one day, there is a company that makes covers for stacks, looks great. Just would be a pain in the rear to climb up and pull them off all the time. My truck is too tall for that, that is why I went with turn outs plus it kind of aims the soot away from the truck and into oncoming traffic!

 

There's a 7 inch kit in eBay for $699 plus $60 shipping. Is this a good deal? If you know of a cheaper kit let us know.

 

ive looked at those also. I think it can be built alot cheaper than that. I have priced some stuff to build a 5" y pipe for stacks and the parts were not cheap

 

Drone isnt too bad with my 6" mitres, only at certain rpms/speeds, even then, just cracking a window eliminates it, and once I finish the sound deadener that will help too.

As for the water, its never really been a problem either, the way the clamps are facing(open side of the preformed clamps down), and the flexpipe, the water drains out just fine, with no exhaust leaks....

 

making up your own kit is nice but they get you in the drive thru on the chrome!! I priced 6in aussie cuts for mine and they wanted over $300 EACH!!

 

I had 2 5'' mitre cut stacks loved them, but the cab drone was way to much for me and the girl friend to be traveling with, so the stacks had to go, ive since replaced it with cool duals from mbrp,

 

diesel performance plus dot com has stacks and kits for way cheaper than most. I am goin for the 6" ausies when i get a little more funds. The 5" turnouts are fine but after a couple of years they are gettin to be to small. Check out the website though they are not as pricey. Aaron

 

Would LOVE to have stacks, but with a little one on the way, the dogs have to ride in the bed now. Living in the NW, that means a canopy. Maybe I can route them thru somehow?? It's an aluminum Tradesman, have to think about that. But anyway, CBRAHS, what is an "Aussie" cut. Just slant cut at a diff. angle? I've always been partial to turn outs.

You can make you're own covers with a black plastic can from hd or something like that, put the long plastic "handles" on the cans and you can do up to 13'6" from the ground. They don't look bad at all and they're only on in the bad weather anyway. Real cheep.

 

Check out black cloud. they have a picture of the aussie cuts. that is what I am getting next.

 

Here's a question that I've never seen asked: do the stacks get in the way of the stock bed tie downs? If so, what have you guys done to overcome this? This is the one thing that keeps me from getting stacks...don't wanna have the stacks get in the way of the tie down cleats.

 

You can see my ghetto solution to that problem(that and I wanted a tiedown point in the middle of the bed anyway.
Had some Drings lying around, so I welded them to the wheel tubs, the wheel tub is thicker than the beds sidewall. Im sure I can make them prettier, but they work, and if I ever sell the truck, break out the grinder, and have a bedliner sprayed in, youll never notice.

 

i have always wanted a single 7" with one of those tractor flaps on the top.. anyone ever seen it.....
