6 speed ??
what is considered a good shifting point(rpm)? a range that will ensure long problem free life of my 6 speed and smooth driving performance too? it's kind of hard to guage yet because every gear feels good. not too sure what is considered lugging and i definitely don't want the egt's to creep on me unknowingly...no guages yet, but soon!

If you dont have any mods to the fueling I wouldnt worry about egts.
Luggin the engine will cause them to go up though, and I think I read somewhere that the "definition" of luggin as far as rms are concerned when empty is about 1400.
I shift (I think) between 16-1800 when Im just drivin normal, but I dont really look at the tach.
I dont think what rpm you shift at will matter as much as how you are shiftin the trans.
Unless you sled pull or drag race you tranny should last as long as the truck, but depending on how good of a driver you are you clutch may be a differant story.
Hope that helped.

I have found that my Trans likes to be shifted at around 2200 RPM! With the way that these trucks are geared that seems to be the best rpm to hit--shift--and be at a slightly better RPM to start the next gear with as little Go Pedal pressure as needed. I let the Gearing do the work. If I shift a little to soon, like around 1700-1900 rpm I feel that I am having to go to deep in the throttle to keep accelerating. You can feel the difference and I have seen no difference in MPG. There are allot of test that have been done that confirm that a faster acceleration to ultimate speed (speed limit) is better than slowly getting up to speed. Try and see!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS

boost junkie, i am gonna post up some videos tuesday night with that boost music you wanted. of course you will have to filter out the sound of 47psi from the lack of muffler sound.
but for you, i will make a video.

I guess I ll try waitin to shift but I do grandpa it around when I am around the house, however my truck does see 3250 resonabley often, I wonder if my shifting style may be contributed to the tst/mp8 stack... have a little more power to turn the tires thus not needing as much rpm? I dont know, maybe I just dont know how to drive, I ll take her out for a spin tonight and try something new.
You all are really shifting at that high of rpms on unloaded, normal/daily driving? I'm almost always dropping it b4 2K (1600~1800) & still picking up the next above 1K. With such a low red-line and so much torque I run through those gears fast (3.73).. maybe too fast, but I've never experienced any lugging stutter as yet.

after driving around a bit more today, i have noticed that the truck behaves a lot better when shifted at a higher rpm(2000 or higher). the engagement as well as total acceleration is a lot smoother when done that way. i keep sayin this, but it is alot different than my 2001 7.3...in a good way of course!

RPM shifts
Just getting used to my 6 speed, and I shift aound 2200 rpm's as well. I'm a retired heavey equipment operator and for years we used to be told that 2250 was where to try and keep it on different diesel equipment.
