48re Breakage

I asked on the other forum about automatic build up for a Smarty jr. equiped daily driver truck that most of us have.
My question here is how many miles do you have on you 48re truck and how do you use it?
Next question is, How many of you have "really" broken the parts that everyone says you "have to" replace just so these every day driver trucks will survive?
You know the parts ,input shafts, bands, clutchs and so on and so on.
I know that these things can make alot of torque and horse power but given a little common sense do they really break that much?
Mine 05 has 52k miles on it and I don't abuse it the tranny is serviced on schedual I pull a 9000lb trailerabout 3-4K miles a year.Except for the 1-2-1-2 or the2-3-2-3 shift thing it works great.
Oh by the way I bought a shift enhancer from Dave Goerand and it's pretty much gone.

I have 28k on my truck. I have had my lift since 5500 miles. I have had my smarty since 16k and it hasn't left sw9 since it was installed. As you can see my mods have progressed. I am rough on my truck but I do avoid boosted launches, drag racing and pulls. I changed my AT fluid at 22k and no signs of problems. Still shifts great and no problems. But I do plan on going to a full billet trans when I can afford it. Better safe than sorry.

My wife has 67thou on her truck and the Smarty has been on 9 for more then 53,000 of those miles. The trans still shifts and holds great after many hard starts and smoky burnouts. I had my Smarty on 9 for about 15,000 miles on my 06 before it started to slip real bad. I use my 06 alot harder then my wife uses her truck. My 06 has a trailer on it Alot and I think I only ever hooked a trailer to her truck once. I didn't break anything but I did smoke the clutches and tq con. on the 06.

I've got 155,000 miles on mine and the only thing that has actually given up is the TC. I tow in the mountains, have larger tires and have been running a programmer (currently a Smarty on 90 HP) for about 100,000 miles.

I never sled pull and have never been to the drags or the dyno. But I do get on it and I do tow. I also don't want to break it and I like to get good mileage.

The stock 48RE is adequate for a stock engine, but not for any more power. And they are not very tight in stock form so a VB and TC are nice additions. Mine began to fail while towing in the mountains at a low RPM. I began to notice the engine reving up 300-400 RPM while locked. The answer, before mods, was to tow at a higher RPM when working it. Stay in Tow/Haul and keep the revs up around 2000-2200 under load and the tranny will be much happier. So will the EGT.
