48RE Billet Input Shaft Endplay

What have you guys gotten on the endplay when installing a billet input shaft? I am getting around .021-.025" endplay, Georend recomends between .030-.060"

If I need to change it, how easy are those thrust washers to source?

Thanks,
Tobin

Listen to Goerand. I have always shot for .040" of endplay. At the .021 you are at, you will get premature wear on the thrust washers.

Any local tranny shop should be able to get what you need. If nothing else, just call Goerand for it.

I changed out the front pump spacer per his recomendation and got .031", not as much as I wanted, but better than the .021" I was getting.

Curious, how do you adjust the endplay when you build it?

Often I manage to get lucky and things are right from the start. You can stand the tranny up with the bell housing down and pull off the overdrive unit.

Now look at the intermediate shaft were the splines end. That spacer clip is a pain to remove, but get it off. Now mic it. Take off what you need to, or call a tranny shop for a smaller one. We always had several sizes in stock and really don't know were we got them or what the actual name for the part is. Sometimes it just takes alot of elbow grease and some 200 grit sand paper.
