4" vs. 5" exhaust??

So I called up today to order a new MBRP exahust. I didnt order because I wasnt sure whether or not to get cool duals for an extra $375+ or so. The guy said It would sound a bit deeper and a little louder, maybe even a bit of a performance gain over the single turboback like I had originally called for. Then, later tonight, I looked on ebay and saw that MBRP has a 5" exhaust. I am switching from my straight pipe setup, which is 3.5" into a 4", and wanting something quieter, but still sounds mean. Im just not toally convinced that I will be happy with the 4" single turboback from MBRP. Should I consider a 5", or go with 4" duals, OR save $375 and get the single turboback??????

Also, anyone know anything about the various No-name exhausts on ebay, I saw one called Flo Pro?

Also what about the 5" Magnaflow, any good?

i went from a 4" straight pipe to a 5" straight pipe and i dont really like the sound not deeper if anything it sounds more like a raspy import car, i then put a muffler on and it was too quiet. im putting stacks on next week and im hoping it sounds better otherwise im going back to 4" straight pipe.

If you want quieter, stay away from the 5".

i went from a 5 in straight pipe dumped under the bed to the Silverline 4in turbo back. Im impressed with the product, i did a little modifying of the tail pipe to make it a bit shorter so i could tuck the tip in a bit more. It looks perfect, it is a little quiet for my tastes but it still has an aggressive sould from the outside. I may go back to a 4 inch straight pipe later but not right now...overall im very happy with it. After going from the 5 inch i noticed i picked up a little mpg on the overhead and i got all of my low end tq back. The 5 inch really does have a different sound...it straight piped was over the top...Jason

Sounds like the 4" is the way to go then, but what about the extra $375+ it will cost to get the MBRP cool duals? Is it worth it, or just go with the single turboback?

personally i would go with the cool duals if ya got the money. if not just go single. i dont think that single from dual differs that much performance wise. so really its up to you and what you wanna spend.
another thing i wanted to throw in here about the 4" from 5" is that from 3.5" to 4" exhaust reduces back pressure up to 98% so anything over 4" is...well not wasting money because it looks cool...but it's not necessary cause you spend more money the bigger ya go and after 4" you're not gaining much either. so i would just get a 4" exhaust system with 5" tip(s).
good luck to ya and i hope this info helped.

no, for one i prefer the look of a single tip on diesels and two i dont really think there is much if any performance gains. I mean it is all a single system until it splits out of the muffler. For 375 bucks i would either save it, put gauges on the truck, or put an intake on the truck. Those will be far more benificial than an extra tail pipe. Just my .02...Jason

if you are set on the MBRP system than get it..but if you want to see some pics of my Silverline T409 system ill go snap a few for ya...i just put it on my truck. You can hear soundclips at their website....Jason

True just changing the outlet from 3.5 to 4" is a huge change in performance for the pre 04.5's.
Cheers

i got the 5" flo pro kit. it is 4" down pipe to a 5" after that to the back. i like the sound of it. its deep when you put your foot into it, but fairly quiet when your off the throttle. the kit cost me like 600 Canadian. you can get them off ebay for like 375 US. plus shipping. i nothiced a little bit of an egt drop and throttle response sfter i got it in. that my opinion.

For me, 5" caused lower EGT's, quicker cool down, less low end torque, and slower turbo spool up. Sounds cool, and LOUD!
Silverline, Flo-Pro, MBRP, Bully Dog Banks, Expandit....and on and on...
They all offer stainles t-304 or 409 or aluminized. The difference seems to be in the mufflers, and the hangers. Are they clamp on or welded on? Does the muffler sound good or bad, restrict or free-flow. Cat delete or not? Straight pipe or not? It's not really about the brand, it's the other factors IMHO
Cheers

my exhaust lowered my egts and gave me better spool up. the flo pro kit is a free flow muffler and its a cat delete system. it came with all of the hardware, hangers, clamps, down pipe, etc. i like the sound of mine, but thats me. if i have a digcam with me i could record the sound for you. i left my cam at home so i can get you the sound. i also heard that the mbrp kit does not fit really good. the flo-pro kit took me 90-120 minutes to install. that includes removal of the old exhuast.

I have the 5" flo pro. I like the way it sounds, but I'll tell you that it does drone somthin' fierce from 65-70. I ordered mine off ebay. I would recommend staying away from the seller that goes by "fastgasracer". He sells the flo pro under the name moto blue. I had nothing but issues with this guy. He sent me the kit for 03-04 instead of 04.5+. This was last December. I still have yet to get the right pieces. So, I basically have my stock down pipe all the way to where the flo pro opens to 5". Had to have the local muffler shop put it together for me being that I had the wrong kit and no help from the seller. I'm thinking about putting my cat back in line to see if it will help with the drone...almost can't have a conversation with it. It sounds mighty otherwise. Oh yeah, FYI: the above mentioned ebay seller is the manager at rpmoutlet.com. Stay away from 'em. He screwed me over pretty good.
