4.5 chips how long do you think
my 4.5 larime 4x4 6 speed dualy is only 6 weeks late and not due for 2 weeks i have no more finger nails ive been religated to the fiver by my wife because its all i talk about and im all ready buying turbo, intake, clutch and x brake . so how long before tst gets their box out for the cali ho .... paitience is not my strong point
pretty much any post on the subject (including this one) is purely subjective and not very reliable
. But I'm sure somebody is working on the problem of fueling boxes for the 04.5. Some of the things that may or may not turn out to be true are:
1. I'm suspicous that the combustion method in the '600 requires a larger cooling capacity. So this might be a platform more suitable for power mods in that regard -- the mods may be illegal, but the platform may be more suitable in the sense that changes to timing and fuel delivery might reduce the cooling needs and the result would be higher sustainable power levels because of the slightly higher cooling system capacity.
2. in addition to boost fooling the new boxes may have to generate wastegate fooling or deal with the electronically controled wastegate in some way. the ECM is expecting to control this, and the stock turbo may or may not be compatible with different fueling.
3. increased emissions (due to the fueling changes) will probably consume the reactive components of the CAT more quickly. however, if one is already comitted to failing the emissions regulations, CAT removal is no worse of an offense :-) -- just easier to detect.
4. the whole combustion topic should really be approached afresh, in my opinion, and I suspecg that the new timing/duration boxes for 04 won't even work on the 04.5s. the new three-event injection method might be a different animal.
5. Pressure boxes will still be the easiest, of course, so I'd expect and EZ to emerge soon. Still the wastegate issue has yet to be tackeled, if it is an issue at all. I'd expect a simple re-calbration to the HPCR itself with some sort of boost fooling / wastegate control to be attempted first.
6. timing/pressure boxes are likely to follow the pressure-only boxes, just as in the 04s. If the mfgs determine that the three-event combustion system can be succesfully manipulated by timing only, then the likes of Banks will be among the first to trumpet success, as they are dedicated to the timing/pressure philosphy.
7. Personally I wonder if timing and duration won't be more difficult for the 04.5s, or if there is even as much to give. three injection events and a very late main charge suggests to me that aggressive timing advance would loose its appeal because the pilot injection event would be advanced too early. it will be interesting to see if "duration and timing" applies to all injection events or only some. I'm not a combustion expert so I really don't know!
