2nd gen exhaust manifold on a 3rd gen?

I've heard a few people sayin that a 2nd gen manifold will get rid of that horrrible raspy sound. Just wonderin if its a direct bolt on?

Yes it bolts right on, you will need a second gen Downpipe and also need to modify your intercooler pipe and make an intake, we used a 4 inch 30 degree elbow and AFE 4 inch cone filter.

I am doing this mod myself - a few more items to mention (turbo oil drain tube will need to be lengthened and possibly different turbo oil feed line). I purchased off ebay these items including the block fitting from a 2nd gen diesel. Gaskets will also need to be replaced - minor items. The difficult part is the exhaust and intercooler pipe. On my part, the exhaust will be tricky since I want to retain the factory downpipe in case I upgrade to a 5-inch or 6 inch exhaust system, otherwise I will use a HX40 downpipe. I will try a drivers side 3rd gen intercooler and see if a long radius 90 degree rubber boot will work with a slight clocking of the turbo. I am in the process of obtaining the parts at this time.

A forum member by the name of Matego did this mod. I hope he doesn't mind throwing out his name on this particular topic. I believe this person used a larger turbo and had to trim part of his shock tower.
