It depends more on the load rating of your tires. The load rating determines what your max capacity for hauling is. Your tires are most likely D rated which means it is equivalent to an 8 ply tire. With a D rated tire on 20's I would be cautious hauling anything over 12,000, but that's just me.

There is also a max weight rating on the tire which can be deceiving because an 8 ply tire will flex more than a 10 ply tire. Even though the weight capacity may be similar, the 10 ply tire will allow you to handle your load better due to less sidewall flex.

It depends on the load rating. Most 35"x20" tires are E-rated and good for more weight than the stock donuts. Just make sure the wheels you pick out are up to the task. For instance, KMC's XD Series wheels in 8-lug are good for 3200 lbs.

guys talk all kinds of trash about 20" wheels but mine are rated at like 3420lb per wheel. I have pulled a full size ford 4x4 truck on a car trailer with no issues. I had 20s on my 05 and pulled a loaded dump trailer. they did fine. I would just make sure you get an E load range tire of you are going to pull goosenecks.
I see alot of guys pulling them. I know you can get the nitto terra grappler in an E load range for sure ive had a set that I sold. Ive bought a couple sets of toyo tires new and they . nittos are pretty awesome also. they would be my choices. I ran the 35" mickey thompson atz tires for a little bit and took them off. they looked awesome but made my truck drive like trash. they weigh over 80lbs each. I think they are meant for a truck with built suspension

the key is E-rated if you want to tow with a big wheel and tire combo IMHO
our trucks are WAY to heavy for D tire...but it you like side wall flex then get D's.

my buddy has a 20" and 35's MTs I love that combo.

just my .02

My 35" Toyos are D-rated at 3305 lbs, and they handle well while towing 10,000 lbs. Not sure how they'd act pulling 15,000 lbs though.

I only have 285s on 20's, but I pull goosenecks fairly often and have had no problems. I just don't get crazy with the turning and taking curves. Nobody should...
