2004, just juiced - couple questions
2004, just juiced - couple questions
I put the Edge Juice w/Attitude on my 2004 305/555 truck last week, but it was not the "full" install yet as I have not had much time. By full install I mean I've not done the Pyro or Boost yet. I already have the BD-X monitor on my truck from the previous owner, and it measures boost and Pyro.
My first question - as I mentioned I have not had a ton of time so I am not sure how the BD-X measures the boost. Is it at the same location the Edge boost elbow goes? If so, how would I go about setting it up so both can be used? I would like the redundancy, as I will have with the Pyro as soon as I drill and tape the manifold.
The next question - other than looking at the Attitude monitor how do I know when the truck is defueling or starving the fuel? Will I feel it? Reason I ask is I put it on 5/5 the other night on a longer ride and it felt pretty good, but at higher speeds (75mph limit zone, hit 80+ passing someone) it felt a little stagnant in acceleration when I hit a certain speed/RPM. It was very slight, but I could feel I was not accelerating as quickly as I'd done at slightly slower speeds and RPM's.
I understand I need to upgrade the fuel system, I just need to wait a few to save and justify picking up the system from Richard and Glacier Diesel. I am just trying to be proactive to see if I am starving it/causing defueling and not realizing it so I do not do any costly damage.
The other question - I'd thought 5/5 on the Edge would immediately slip the clutch and toast it pretty quickly? I've only had it on 5/5 three times so far (amazing considering I have NO will power when it comes to power mods). During those three times it feels it has held great. I expected a touch more than what it has on 5/5 (comparing it to 3/4 and 3/5). Perhaps it is slipping enough to reduce the power to the ground, but not enough that I'd really notice it yet?
I am also saving for an SBC clutch so I am fighting the urge to really have fun with the truck.
I have never dumped the clutch on this truck, nor do I slip it when "racing" from a stop. I put it in gear and get it moving a touch, wait until the clutch is all the way out, then I will romp on it a bit.
Thank you for your time.

I would like to help, but I don't know....I am currently saving for the juice with attitude combo. I know on the autos that levels 4&5 will slip the trans. I would think you could tell by you rpms increasing but not your speed while it is slipping. Don't know about the boost elbow, I believe it is just to keep your wastegate closed longer so you can build more boost. I believe your boost my be measured buy the map sensor(at least it is on the newer trucks). Sorry I could be more help.
i'll try to help.
On 5/5 at high speeds (thus already at a relatively high RPM), you may be draining the fuel rails. i personally wouldn't know, my FASS went on when my Juice did.
if it defuels, you will know it. I would suggest go reset some of the settings to defuel at like 1000*EGTs or something low so it will defuel so you can experience it. trust me, you'll know it.
Sounds like you are being nice to the clutch...it may not be slipping just yet but it will. save up the $, go SBC.

Search did not yeild the actual answers I was looking for. Nothing stated how to tell when X or Y was happening, just that it was happening and they were asking how to fix it or stop it.
I noticed today at a higher altitude the truck was surging off and on when I was constant with the throttle around 45 mph. Not quite sure what the deal with that was...

Where you from, and what do you consider "high" altitude? 1st ting I would suggest is make sure the tranny slip detection defuel safety is turned off!!! I've personally have never even turned it on. Edge themselfs say it's practicly worthless. mine has read all funky kind of %'s. Try this and we can go from there. Hopefully we'll get it figured out without you having to send it back.

Mile High - Denver Colorado, at 5280 ft. I was in Winter Park yesterday, which is considerably higher (can't remember the altitude off-hand). The slip detection is turned off, however I will confirm this again sometime today when I am back in my truck (preggo wife due any day cannot easily climb into it).
I'm just trying to figure out if it is the touchiness of the throttle due to the boost fueling or if I have something else going on. The hesitations are happening at times where the boost is lower and I'm 'cruising' at a lower constant rate of speed.
Draining the rail sounds reasonable at the higher rate of speeds...

when the thing defuels it should read "0" on the monitor where it shows the power level 1-5. At least mine will kick to zero when I max it out sometimes and you can feel the loss of power when it does that. Mine is an 05 though.
If you confirm your tranny slip defuel is turned off, I would lay money down that you have a Lift Pump not keeping up with the CP3 demands. I had a good factory one and until just a month ago, was still stock even with the stack I had. Never had any noticable starvation prob, even with everything turned up. That was pre modded turbo though. My pressures would drop to zero on fuel guage, and prob had a vaccum when under WOT though. I guess the CP3 would suck just enough to keep up.
that cut in and out at about 45...yeah i have it too randomly. but whatever, i'm getting rid of my edge...A2 monitor issues...2nd monitor already and its messed up and they won't have a fix til late july/early august. not for me. they told me to return it. Edge has great customer/tech support. give them a call and personally talk to them.

Sorry for the delay - we welcomed our little girl to the world 06/27/2006.
Sleep is now a myth, as is my time in the garage to work on my toys.
streetsmoker:
Turns out you were dead on - apparently I had not turned off the tranny slip protection. Another surge reminded me to look at it the other night, and lo and behold it was on. Trip up to Castle Rock Colorado it started to act as though it was vapor locked at one time. Turned the juice down, checked the settings when I got to my destination, changed it and the trip home was uneventful. Sweet...
Thanks for the tip man...

Glad to help
I never even tried turning mine on, but figured that was the prob as many Banks 6Gun guys have this very issue. The problem is you wind up having a stacked safety prob. The factory ecm has this very feature already. No need to make it redundant
Say, I'll be in your neck of the woods next weeek. Want to tke the your TJ and my XJ and go climb some rocks??? Are you on colorado4x4.org? With a new addition to the family, I can figure out the answer, but just thought to ask.
