06 MegaCab bought! Where to go now?

Traded my 05 PSD for a MegaCab Cummins 6sp. Now, what should I do first? I'm not looking to shatter any 1/4 mile times, but do want more power. I haven't owned a new Cummins before, so am not versed in the ways of the CR Cummins.

Ah so grasshopper!

what he said.... just keep reading and asking questions. We'll be here to help you spend your money...
If you want to get a quick 60hp and 165lb/ft of torque, check out DTR's shop and you could get a good deal on Quad's XZT box. Easy reliable and POWER...

Nice numbers indeed. Well, tell me this oh gurus of diesel, is there any advantage to putting a K&N style open air filter on these engines? I know on my 98 24v it really didn't make a whole lot of difference. Same thing for exhaust. Does that still hold true with these newer engines? And, does it still make a difference to take the little noise silencer out of the intake side of the turbo?

I'm no guru, but general theory is K&N is not good on our trucks. There are better alternatives out there that keep the bad stuff out and still flow very well. Keep reading. You'll find all the info you need.

Some guys go the BHAF route.
Others, such as myself, for now anyway, just slightly modded the stock airbox by knocking a few holes in the bottom. The stock paper filter is doing fine keeping my silicon levels low.
You can also gut the stock tubing and/or add a 5.5" piece of aluminum tubing in its place for more flow and more turbo whistle.

Do a search on BHAF on this site and you should be able to see what parts you need. Very inexpensive, very, very large air filter... and some tubing. Alot of ways to skin this cat...

I had the B, A, and F figured out, didn't guess the H! So, lemme get this straight. Oiled AF are bad for a Cummins? Man, someone should make a sticky that tells this stuff. Noobies, do this, this, this and this and your truck will run great! Anything else after that is yer own problem! LOL

Not necessarily oiled air filters, but K&N's I've read allow in too much dirt. AFe makes a good filter. I believe AEM makes a good synthetic washable non oiled filter. Scotty systems, who is a member here and elsewhere makes some very good units with foam filters.
I think the problem with most oiled filters is the user. Too much or too little oil.
