05 drone worse than 03?

I have an 05 dually that seems to drone bad, the exhaust has been gutted and a performance muffler with resonator put on. I had a 03 3/4 ton and basically the same set up other than muffler manufacturers and it was way more drone free. is it the muffler or are the 05s just louder or couldis it be the duallys rear fender resonating the noise more.

I have no drone on mine and I have duals. I saw on some of the straight thru design mufflers you can turn them around to be louder or opposite to be quieter. I think the aero-turbine muffler is like that but don't quote me. What muffler do you have? Mine is the stainless MBRP duals with a tiny little thing you could barely call a muffler but it sounds GOOD !

On my 05 I have a banks muffler ( supposed drone free chamber built in) and a resonator in front of it. On the 03 I had a quadzilla, my buddy has that truck and i was in it today it sounds so much better. I was thinking about putting a quad muffler on but wanted to get other peoples thoughts first so I dont waste the money if the muffler is not the cause and it is the truck.

I think that the resonator works best if it is positioned directly after the downpipe. You should also check all your mounts as sometimes these vibrate and give off what some think is a drone. You can also try a turndown tip. All these have been known to cure the drone on these trucks.....

If you use an Aeroturbine as far forward in the system as possible, ie: under the passengers feet, you should be able to eliminate most all the drone and quiet the in cab sound at the same time lower EGTs a little more. If you want it quieter yet consider the 4040L Aeroturbine with built in resonator.
