05 with blown engine, what to do??

My buddie has a 2005 Quad cab, auto. It was bone stock but had a FASS, banks 6 gun and bully dog, 4" pipe.

He smoked #4 piston and Dodge called it in to headquarters and found out about all the aftermarket crap. They pulled his warranty 100%.

He has 10k to play with, he also wants about 600 to 650 hp.

Its 9k for a new cummins from the factory.

What are other options, and rough costs.

Thanks
Rod

if he has that money, just do the engine yourselves. sleeve the bad jug, get new pistons and rings, freshen up everything else, change the head, cam, injectors, get a modded cp3, turbo, etc. no need to get another engine from cummins with a warranty if you are chasing HP.

I agree. If he is mechanically inclined, tell him to do the rebuild himself. It will leave money left over for mods

the 5.9 is one of the easiest engines to work on. many of the components are cast in, oil cooler housing, etc. the hardest part of the job will be removing most of the front end to pull the 960# engine.

all that massive power that the Banks 6 gun produced!!!!

"Banks products will not void your warranty!!!!!"

maybe you should give banks a call and maybe they will give your friend some support with DC or buy him an engine.

lazy boy

My buddie is a lazy boy and it would take him a year if we did it ourselves.

He said he would rather send it out and be done with it(must be nice). Dodge allready pulled the engine and its sittin in a crate at his shop.

I think he can handle the small bolt on things, cp3 and such but no engine work

blow

He had the 6 gun all the way up and then the bully dog all the way up as well.
He kept blowin injectors, but just kept them up. Dogde put new injectors on 4 times, and finally when the piston was toast they called corp.

He's a little pig headed, I told him to get the tst and 100hp injectors, and turbo in the past. But he wouldnt listen, now he is asking me to find this out.
He has the money, and I always have the "I told u so"

Buy an engine out of junk truck will probably be your cheapest way. They usually go for $3-5k.
There was a guy that had a couple new 325hp motors on ebay a while back for $6k each....I think they are sold now though.

If you are going to buy one on ebay, make sure it is from a reputable person or company. There were some scammers unloading 6.0's on there recently. Apparently the engines were stripped out of stolen f series trucks. Just a heads up, some of those guys got unexpected visits from law enforcement officers.

Like the guy that took the Hemi out of the power wagon and bought the Cummins that had like 23 miles on it because it fell off the truck on the way to the dealer... Talk about luck!!
