'05 APPS to Throttle Cable Conversion

I am trying to get some info if this can be done. I have a drive-by-wire truck. I am wanting to switch the trans back over to a throttle cable. I have heard there is a kit out there to make this work. Does anybody know of one?

The reason for doing this is for better control over the tranny. As most of you know when you add power to your truck, you don't have to press the pedal down very far to accelerate. Well, that can cause pressure problems in the tranny. Meaning that you will not have as much pressure because the truck doesn't think you are accelerating very hard. I know there is atleast one programmer out there that causes this situation a little bit more than others, but I think they all do it in some way.

So after talking to my tranny builder, we have decided to try to find all the info we need in order to attempt this conversion. Any input you guys have would be awesome.

Thanks

There is a shift enhancer that will take care of this issue for you(electronic portion). I can't remember who makes it.

Haven't heard of a kit but it might be available. The shift enhancers offer at least as much control as a cable, neither one allows a real fine control. Whether an 05 can be adapted to a cable is a reall good question given theposition of the APPS and the TV motor control.

The DTT piece can be programmed for different builds and setups and works quite well, as well as manual cable adjustment from my experience. You just hve to work out what you need and talk to DTT about what it is doing. Every truck is a bit different so make some time to dial it in.

I've had my DTT Guy try 3 times and we cant get rid of the 2-3-2 at light throttle (using Smarty Beta 4.4 primarily...doesnt do it on the others, least not nearly as often)....diff spring, Diff Shift Enhancer Settings,.....not a big deal, but can be annoying in heavy traffic.

I am aware of the TS ShiftMaster and the DTT Shift Enhancer. I do not think either of those control line pressure. There is a lot more adjustability and control when using the cable instead of voltage. My tranny guy is the one who started researching this as an end all to the many transmissions I have gone through. My last tranny build has been awesome and isn't showing any signs of failure like my other trannies did.

I am just trying to get the research done so I can have all parts on hand if my tranny kips again.

The electric TTV valve does adjust the line pressure. That is what the shift enhancer controls.

Nope, and Bill K will tell you tell you the same thing. No shift enhancer controls line pressure, only throttle valve pressure. Line pressure is a function of rpm and the pressure relief valve in the VB. The only way to control line pressure is push on the go pedal, and, by 1600 rpm's line pressure is pretty much maxed.

The DTT shift enhancer does a better job of any controlling the TV pressure than any of the others as it is programmable. As for better control via a cable, I don't see it on comparable power and trans builds. I guess it depends what you are looking for but my DTT box is as good as setting the cable manually and it is easier to set and change on the fly. I would question anybody that claims controlling line pressure is the key and a cable is better. It just don't add up in my experiece.

Correct, and neither does the TV cable. Line pressure control is not your problem, you need to match the throttle pressure to what the governor pressure is doing. Thats the key to gettin the trans to work correctly, and, the problem. The DTT piece is as effective as a cable IF all the othe rpieces involved are working correctly.

I can run moderate and wild TQ management on Smarty if I set the DTT box correctly and things work great. If you don't get all the pieces to mesh its a pain in the rear to drive.
