03-04 vs 04.5-06 in power?

I am looking for a CTD for my conversion and have found pretty many to purchase...One question I thought of is with the 250hp versions coupled with power enhancer such as a TST box...Will it make the same power as a 325 hp version 04.5-06 CTD with the same TST box? I assume the injectors are different since the available performance injectors on different sites are listed differently as per years.

I read (I think it was from TST) that their systems will bring a standard output and high output to the same level at the end. Which means that an SO would gain more power from stock than an HO would, but both would be the same at the max levels....that make sense?

But HO trucks have the 48RE. So you might want to take that into consideration.

Overall power output will be similar, so you can say that the SO trucks respond better to power enhancements.

Some later SO trucks were equipped with the 48RE, they're just harder to find.

IMO you should find a 04.5 and newer truck. They have better injectors, better CP3's and can make more power more easily than the '03-'04 trucks. They might not get as good fuel economy, plus you may have to pull the cat, but I think it's a good trade-off. You'll get the economy back with a power-adder.

Why is there no 170 horse program or Crazy Larry for '03's and '04's? Cause they can't support the demand for fuel.

I learned the hard way.
Dont make the same mistake I made.
I wish someone would of come out and told me the truth back in Febuary when I was looking for a used CTD

04.5+ will make a ton more power then 03-04

dollar for dollar, mod for mod the 04.5+ are the way to go.

There's 04.5+'s that are putting down 600-650hp on stock injectors, stock cp3's, no drugs, no twins!!!! Most are in the 12-low13 sec 1/4 mile easy.

I've read that the SO's are really touchy when it come to electronics.
The only good thing about the 03-04 are better mpg, and cheaper price due to it being 4 years old

My ideal rig would be a 05 with a sunroof..

Does this pretty much sum up your question.

600 hp on a 04 with only electronics, turbo, air, exhaust, and lift pump mods...

Of course a tranny to hold it...

Seems easy to me????

Well that helps me make up my mind. I'll be looking for an 04.5+ CTD for my conversion.

Thanks,
Brent.

Well, let me put it this way. At our last dyno day I put down the numbers in my sig. A very similarly modded 05 HO put down about 30 more hp and 75 more tq. I don't think he had aftermarket injectors though. With just the TST box by itself there will probably be a pretty good difference in power. Once you throw in the second box to stack with the TST then it becomes more equal.
I know where there's a built 03 for sale for cheap........ And it's not that far from you.....

I would buy an 03 or 04 without hesitation.
Like cquestad (someone who knows what they are talking about) said earlier in the post he is at 600hp with minimal mods and his is a 2004.

The only factory bottleneck for the 305 motors is the stock injectors. Other than that, there is nothing to make one motor more powerful than the other. The biggest number on a dyno so far is 893 from Reb B... with an 03. CP3s are the same on all trucks. Injectors, Heads (minor flow improvement on 600s), and ECMs are the main differences. 600 on an 305 motor is doable and should run cooler, get better mileage, and no worries from the kitty kat patrol.

Thanks Guys!
Hey Dodgezilla...E-mail me.

I want to run twins with this CTD and I was planning on using a fresh HTB3/26 I already have.
I still need it to be a tow beast but 650+hp is my goal. What turbo would you guys suggest running
as a secondary? I was thinking an HTB2.....I'm not sure what size housing to run on the HTB2 though.

Thanks,
Brent.
