what would you do?
what would you do?
This is concerning the 09 3500 with 6speed standard shift in my signature, that is used for towing most of the time.
If you could only make one modification what would it be? I’m not interested in a chip after all the truck has more power than most of the over the road trucks that I have driven.
But I would be interested in any mod that would make driving easier or more fun.

Well, I'd get a better fuel filtration system. I hear that Glacier has a bolt on 2 micron. That won't make it more fun to drive, but some good insurance for the future.
More fun? I'd maybe get a good audio system. I can't really think of something more fun that making it go fast...

Well I’m not a rims and tires kind of man. I like the factory look.
Mad, what makes you say that? Are the fuel filters on these trucks in need of an upgrade or are the regular filters fairly good?
As for go fast stuff, I have found that go fast cost a lot more money than I have to spend.

The reason I say better filtration: These motors run extremely high fuel pressure, and injectors are not exactly cheap. If you have bad fuel, and it causes injector/fuel system failure, DC will not warranty it (if they can prove it was bad fuel) Good luck getting a gas station to pay for it.
A few hundred bucks now, or a lot later. The filtration on these trucks are not bad, but I think that the best they get from the factory is either 5 or 7 micron.

If your not interested in power upgrades and want to retain the factory look of the vehicle (no rims tires stacks etc) I would have to say that a good high quality audio system would be my choice.
Nothing like a fine system cranking out great tunes to melt the miles off of a long trip.

I didn't see a PYRO or BOOST Gauge. Especially towing and even stock they can get hot. Help you stay in the preveriable sweet spot and can help you drive with better economy. I look at those gauges more than anything else. Also even through they have improved the lift pump systems a fuel pressure guage might be in order to head off any problems. Definatly the filter system. The injectors on these truck are asked to a lot of work and this ULSD is crappy fuel IMHO opinion and seems to be dirtier. My 99 has orginal injectors with no issue with 320K on them. My 03 has 150k on them and they are starting to go. I haven't beeing running advance filtration like i should have and now it will cost me some bucks.

I may get flamed for saying this (flame suit on) but IMO the single most important upgrade to do to your truck would be DELETE THE EMISSIONS JUNK!!! Its imperative to extend the life of your truck. The benefits are: better gas mileage, no dirty turbos, no regens. Again, just my opinion, take it for what its worth~
Some good thoughts guys thanks. I will be saving this one for reference.
Mad, thanks for the clarification.
I’m thinking that I may have to break down and make two modifications.
1) Good filters.
2) Set of gages.
As for the radio the music that I listen to actually sounds best on a bad system.
But then again I still think that Mearl Haggard is a new comer.
