What is that tube?

Just looking around the engine again, noticed the small tubing running from what looks like the t-stat housing to the middle of the exhaust manifold. Was it some part of the EGR system? I am assuming it isn't critical if it's not part of aftermarket manifolds.

Someone here has to know! Thanks

I believe that you are referring to the exhaust back pressure tube and sensor:

It is my understanding that it keeps your turbo from making too much back pressure by moving the vanes.
I have seen a PDI manifold that had the provision for that fitting. But if you are going to an aftermarket turbo, that is not a variable vane, you don't need it.

Scott.

Thanks a lot for the pic and info, that is what I was wondering about, odd they run the tube from the manifold all the way up there.

The long tube prevents exhaust heat from damaging the sensor.
