Here's another thought... Are there really any differences.
I have worked in the service department of dealerships for several years, The only rule (Law) is they can't over state ratings... Nothing says you can't under rate them...
Does anyone have definitive information?

Also, the new advertisements are claiming 400/800 like the Fords have. Can they be had with the manual tranny or are the new higher output Dodges only available with an auto?

100% tuning. The HO may have a different harmonic balancer, but I bet that even that gets changes, too expensive to have 2 different motors.

It's actually 350/800 and only on the auto. Manuals stay at 350/610.

I would guess the new rating applies only to the auto due the torque management program that can limit the motor in situation, the Mnaual doesn't have the option so they lower the power from the start or else they would be replacing clutches and trans under warranty. I'm sure there are very few condition were the auto will be actually making the 350/800 listed.

Manual's utilize torque management as well, and have since at least 2003, and IIRC 2000.

The main reason is the clutch won't support it. I have no clue why they don't upgrade the clutch/trans to handle the tq.

The auto will have the ability to make the full 800 in 4th, 5th, and 6th gears.

Dodge needs to upgrade the manual tranny to Eaton's FSO-8406A 6-speed to take advantage of the new torque rating.

I think they need to build a new trans with 2 OD's to keep up with the auto crowd.

1-5 the same as current models (maybe minor tweaking) but a .80 6th and a .60 7th. Offer it with 3.42, 3.73, and 4.10! Would be an amazing setup!

The main reason for the autos only with the higher output engines is emissions control. The auto allows for better control of the engine loading and in turn better collar on the emissions. The manual is just too variable to maintain.
