Weird Transmission Issue

My wife's 09 Megacab had a weird issue yesterday. She was cruising at 75 mph and out of nowhere the transmission went into limp mode. No codes were thrown & no messages on the information console.
She got it towed to a shop & they couldn't find any codes. Today they drove the truck & it shifts like a champ. What the hell! Does anyone have any ideas? She'll have them change the fluid & filters just for
poops & grins, but she's 10 hours from home & I don't want her sitting on the side of I10 for hours waiting for me to come get her if it pukes out again.

How do you know the trans was in limp mode? For the transmission to go into limp mode there should most certainly be codes stored. Sometimes, stopping and restarting will temporarily fix some things. However, the root cause needs to be addressed. Did they scan the TCM? (not just the ECM)? In the ECM there should be P0700 which indicates the TCM has an issue and needs to be scanned to find the TCM code..

She's traveling back to Mississippi from Georgia, so I'm just relating what she told me over the phone. She just called back & the shop is telling her that the transmission is toast. They dropped the pan & it's full of filings. She texted me a picture and the pan looks
like someone took a microplane grater and grated about 5 lbs of steel in the pan. Dang it!! Appreciate you getting back to me, but it looks like a new transmission for me.
