thinking about trading for a 2008 cummins

Hey All

I have a 2001 4wd cummins 5spd that gets 18-19 in town and thinking bout tradin for a 5700 mile 2008.. looks like the new cummins have some lovers and some haters.. I only tow my boat and dont haul more than a few hundred pounds most days, but I like my diesel! The other choice is gonna be a new chevy 1500...

thanks
Mark

If your going to use the 2008 for around town don't get it as these new trucks have to be worked hard (they don't like short trips).

P.S. You don't like the new 2009 Ram 1500?!!

If you remove the emissions junk then you will be very happy with a 6.7 truck. I had to sell mine due to the current economic crisis and I can honestly say I am sad to see it go.
There are some people that have had zero problems out of a stock untouched 6.7 truck but I would not even consider one if I wasn't going to at least unplug that EGR....

I really miss my 2001 qc 4x4 5 speed truck, my favorite from all the trucks I've had. Keep the 2001 dodge, and get a 1500 chevy gasser.

I was surprised at how slow this 08 6.7L truck was. I have read a number of posts that say how quick they are and the transmissions bla bla bla.. Is there something wrong with it? I have friends with fords and chevy diesels and they haul azz. I think from a slow roll my truck would take it..

There has to be something wrong with it. I love the power mine has, lots stronger than my 04. I have a buddy with a 2001 2500 4x4 with some bolt on mods, edge and cold air and straight pipe, and he still cant catch me. My brother has 2 ford pooper strokes, cant keep up either. If I was you I would go test drive a brand new one and see if there is a diffrence. If your going to use this 08 for daily in town driving keep you presant truck. The 6.7 really doesnt like putting around.

The dealers will never tell you their new truck s@#$s for short trip driving! A factory rep told me they need to be drivin at least 40 mins at highway speeds to keep that soot those emissions have in the truck and not in the air. Darn tree huggers The now have new " things " you can do to help with these issues. Read the posts about egrs and delete mods. Back to you wanting to buy one. They are a great truck all around, power, comfort, looks, I wish I could say milage. But that to you can fix.

Be carefull buying used 07-8's some of them are buy backs that's had trubo and intake sensors cleaned because of problems with the emissions. Almost lemon's but they pass them on to the next unwitting buyer.

This is very true. When I lemoned mine I took a new truck and doing that they use my lemon as a trade in fix it and send it to the auction as a used truck. They do not have to post that it was basically a buy back. So if you see an 07 or 08 on a wholesale lot it is almost for sure a buy back. If you want a used one stick to your local dealer and have them do a car fax.

I had my 2500 08 for 12 months and it never gave me a problem for 20k+ miles
I've had my 3500 mega 08 for 1 months and it has not given me any problems.

My only complaint about the 08 trucks is the mileage, I've managed to get 17 out of the mega but the more I think about it, the most I ever got out of my 05 3500 dually was 17.5-18 before I added a box to it and started getting 20 routinely. So I am hopeful that once I decide on a box to add to this one, it will get up to 19 or so which would make me happy because then I could do my weekly commute on 1 tank instead of having to fill up after 4 days.

We have a bone-stock '08 in the shop this month - it's the slowest CTD I've ever driven. Mileage is also atrocious.
Can't wait to rip all the extra parts off...
